I want to be free!

Postby Shady4 » Wed Dec 13, 2017 4:29 am

I have been reading on this site for a few years now and this is my first time posting. I have been gambling for the last 20 plus years. Recently it has gotten worse. I do not gamble online nor do I go to the big casinos. My down fall is video poker at these random truck stops. I have lost thousands in the last few months. I have also won thousands, but it's not winning because eventually it all goes back. I have lied to my husband and family about where I go just to go play video poker. It has got a hold of me and I'm tired of gambling all our extra money. I really need help and looking for advice. In the last 3 days I have lost 1700 dollars in video poker. 700 was today alone. I want to be free, I do t want to gamble anymore. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Obviously, you need help. You cannot do it by yourself. I will always suggest going to a GA meeting.
There you may find help and understanding with people like yourself. If you keep it a secret, it sort of guarantees that you will continue to go back and gamble. You have to be accountable.

Sometime, it is helpful to know why we gamble and if it is boredom, think of some other more healthy and interesting things you could do with your family and for yourself that don’t cost an arm and a leg like gambling, it is not value for money, in fact It could wipe out everything we have little by little, just like the frog slowly simmering in the warm tub of water, so comfortable and then the water start to boil.

Like 58gambling mentioned we cannot do it on our own, GA is a good idea. Everyone is different, for me in my early days of trying to stop gambling, I spend a lot of time in various forums and chat rooms with people who have the same goal, it really help to stay connected.
