Getting in control of debt

Postby Idiotonaroulette » Mon Dec 11, 2017 2:15 pm

So here i am again, after all iv been through this year with gambling i continue to relapse. I hit a big win, 20,000 but managed to lose it all again for some crazy reason i cant seem to get my head around why i would do that. It was enough to get me out of the debt i had caused myself and maybe a few grand spare to get some savings going again. Why couldnt i just walk away? Instead i lose all the winnings and contine over the weeks to chase the win. Now i owe 2 credit cards the limit, and iv got myself 10,000 in overdraft i had to increase. I really need to get on top of this $#%^ now before i lose everything. Whats gone is gone im not going to keep digging myself even further into the hole by chasing i need to get on top of my finances. Now im paying loads of charges for being so much in overdraft so i need to get a loan to clear the overdraft and cancell my overdraft alltogether so i can make monthly repayments maybe over 3 or 4 years and pay no where near as much intrest/charges. I can remember before when i had loans im sure they wanted to see 3 months bankstatements? I dont think they give me a loan if they see my bank statements!!! So do i have to wait 3 months gamble free for the statements and just keep paying extortionate charges until then? Theres got to be a way out of this mess iv got myself in.

I don't know about the 3 months statement requirement but they will typically compare your assets and income against your current debt to determine if you can afford to pay back what you want to borrow .

The answer to the question of why you continue to do this is simple : You have an addiction that demands to be fed and you keep feeding it . As long as you keep doing that , you are making it stronger and more secure in its power over you . It knows you will eventually get more money and it will wait patiently until you do so before it once again convinces you what a great , smart idea it would be to gamble a little and make a pile of money that will solve all your financial problems . Except that even if that does happen , you won't be able to walk away with it . The addiction's appetite will not allow it .

What is enough ? You may win hundreds or even thousands ... ask yourself if you hit a big win, are you going to stop ? Really ? ... why would you, you’ve won big, you can now pay off your debts, why not carry on to treat yourself to a new TV , a new Car ?! It is this mentality that has found us where we are - there is never enough and a win means you will just carry on down this spiral. Don’t fool yourself!
