New here

Postby Realme1972 » Tue Oct 31, 2017 1:55 am

Reached rock bottom. Very sad today. Is there anyone on here who has addiction to slot machines? I began gambling in 1998. Started with Bingo then progressed to slot machines,. I for the life of me do not understand why I do it. I just know I have lied to the ones who I care about most to cover up my addiction, I hate myself for what i have done. I am about $50,000 in debt including car, loans and other bills. I just want to do better and stop gambling. This is not the life i want, I just want to be able to sleep without nightmares, anxiety and wake up ready to make a difference. I hope this forum is a good start to my recovery. I feel like I am out of options at this point.

Don't despair; once you admit you have a problem, you have taken that important first step.
Welcome to the forum; you can find support here, but I strongly suggest you attend a GA meeting where you live and it will be more effective. If you really want to quit and have a better life, you have to act on it and be honestly determined to be accountable and stick to it. The addiction is just too strong to battle by yourself. Get help. Once you are on your way to a gamble-free life and slowly paying off your debts, you will experience a big change for the better.

Congrats on taking the step to quit the madness of our addiction. If u can get to GA its a great resource and after a bit u can get a pressure relief meeting to try help get a grasp on how to manage your debt and other issues.

Once u get a little clean time under your belt u will feel much better and be able to tackle the obstacles in front of u but it takes work and dedication.

Welcome Realme1972 !

I am addicted to slot machines . They are a particularly nasty form of gambling addiction and it is a long , hard battle to become free of them . They are designed to be addictive .

If you haven't already , please check out our Strategies thread at the top of the forum . There may be some ideas and advice there that you can use . There is hope - I was addicted for 7 years , I gambled on slot machines almost every day , often for up to 12-14 hours . I sunk to depths I had never believed myself capable of sinking to and finally , I made my decision and fought my way out of that Living Hell one day at a time . January 1, 2018 will mark my 3rd year of recovery .

The debt is secondary to the disease - it is a symptom , not the problem . The addiction will try to keep you focused and worried about your debt and encourage you to try and "win" your way out of it . That is both a lie and bait for the trap . End the gambling and the debt will resolve itself , in a surprising short amount of time .

You are not alone in this fight . We will help you anyway we can , but it all starts and ends with you . I second our members who suggest GA . They can be a powerful resource for support and guidance in the beginning of your recovery .

You can do this !
