For me, exercising, reading and planning trip and events are what kept my mind occupied. However, what I learnt in therapy is that 'distractions' from gambling can only take your so far and cannot be relied on for the rest of your life. Eventually we need to deal with 'ourselves' without the distractions. These distractions are vitally important in early recovery to abstain and keep our minds off of gambling. After sometime, we can really see the addiction for what it is and don't have to rely on these distractions as much.

Good point , Aries411 .
As my GF time accumulated , all the things I used in the beginning to distract myself became less and less necessary . I do continue to do few of them to this day , but as I became more confident in my recovery , I regained my old self - the person who lived a life that gambling had no place in .
There are days when I am bored out of my mind . I live with it and it passes . I don't fear boredom . I have choices - and none of them include gambling .

well said guys. You can't self medicate whether that's through excessive travel or spending or drink or drugs. BALANCE. Balance is essential. And we have to be content with who we are. When there is no one around and we sit in silence, in peace. When you reach that, it's
