Here's a newspaper article about it:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/men/active/m ... 50000.html

Three things about this article struck me as important things to note:

1) As he spiraled downward into continual losses, he always believed that the next bet could be the one that would make things right again......
2) It started out as "fun" but after a while, he was not gambling out of choice anymore, but to cover his tracks.....
3) He actually left his child in his car while he went to gamble; this is something I have read that some mother also did, (while she went into the casino) and ended up being arrested for child endangerment.....

Yep, it's a superb read of just how bad gambling can turn someone into. It's a full on biography really so covers his successful time in the Army and early career too before gambling took hold. It's a lesson for us all with the sum he lost and what he lost. Never again!

Great article. This quote really hit me:

"I genuinely believed that the next two-pound bet would win everything back."

This from a guy who's in the hole hundreds of thousands and pawning valuable possessions for a fraction of what they're worth. What a powerful reminder of the irrationality we fall into.

Things are going well now, the debt is down to around £8000 and I should be free by the end of the year.

I did have a couple of minor slip ups a while back, but I soon put a stop to that, as I realised what would happen.

Not gambled in months now and it is getting much easier to avoid it.
