Well done on the 500 days Ricardo which is hopefully 522 days at this stage!!! Yes it’s true for most of us on here it takes a long time to recover from financial mistakes. We have done a lot of damage to ourselves and possibly others. That doesn’t heal overnight. For me it feels like it will be about 3 year before I’ll be in any way happy again. However I don’t want to fall into the trap of counting away the days and wishing my life away. One day at a time isn’t it.I was going to have a large bet again this week, the voice in my head was saying it will be an easy 4 grand, it’s an end of season bet where the result won’t be known until next year.I went back to my anti gambling notes and recalled the sheer pain of previous losses.I decided not to do it.Even if I win, I think it would just mess with my head and I would use the 4000 euro ‘winnings’ to try and recoup my previous losses. In the end I would more than likely lose that and more money along with it.I would then be back to square one.I’m glad I found the strength to fight that urge this week.I am gambling free 11 months today or 336 days.

That's a textbook lie of addiction , completely glossing over the fact that even one incidence of gambling is basically guaranteed to end in a downward spiral of relapse . I still get a rare and random thought like that . It kind of blows my mind that after nearly 10 years of recovery , my addiction is still trying to suck me back in even though I know with every fiber of my being that there is no chance in Hell that will ever happen .

Well done to you Sconced , for being wise to the lies . I truly believe that I am a gambling addict for life . The only power I have is to not take the poison , no matter how pretty the bottle is .

I'm really looking forward to your 1 year milestone post ! Thank you for your continued support here on the forum . It makes a difference !

Yes, we start to see savings. I haven't been that wise when it comes to money. But I need to wise up on this and be frugal. I have faltered many times and frankly I don't want to go down that path again with those financial distress feeling.

Same here, I look forward to the 4 digit days. Thanks mate :D

When it comes to the part of doing my financial review, lol more of a debt review..I tend to think of the past, why haven't I been wise in doing certain things. I guess, we all need to write things somewhere, to remind ourselves not to make those mistakes. Slowly and certainly, I will get over this with time.

Thank you fren and I look forward to my 4-digit days. :D

That's true Sconced. We have done damage to ourselves and others, so when really need to repair this. I have come across many situation of certainty in events, like Trump can win the elections, my favorite or some top league soccer team can win their next match..I did feel tempted. But we all know that it just take a spark to get the fire going, and that we can't have that 1 or 2 event and put a fullstop. For us, the fullstop doesn't exist, because we are wired differently.

I wish for you to keep this run, as I feel we are in the same boat (your days are not much far than mine). So let's continue to motivate each other by posting our updates here. Cheers :D

Hello everyone. Congrats to NewSunRising on the 10 years(decade) and getting-better on 7 years and 3 months. It shows what can happen when you get a good run going. They really are significant amounts of time. RicardoG that’s true we can help and encourage each other along the way.You can tell by your posts that you are very determined to keep the good run going and not return to your old ways.I am not saying it’s easy but like me you suffered too much from gambling losses to return to such a life again. That gives us a good incentive to stay off it.The last day I had a bet was Wednesday December 27th 2023.Last Wednesday I was out driving the car and the clock went to the same moment I had that shocking feeling of my last huge loss.I remembered being on the laptop at home and that awful feeling of the loss. A whole 12 months had passed. It felt like a weird moment to me,I wasn’t ecstatic but it was a victory nonetheless. Some people reading this are probably on their first gambling free day today.I wish them a gambling free 2025. Today I am 53 weeks gambling free or 373 days.Happy new year everyone!!!

WOW ten years that is great! Congratulations!

I know that you're here in PF because of this, here. But I never think of it as something that you're in danger of relapsing into. That doesn't occur to me because I feel down deep as if it's something you'll never go back to doing. You have ten years of knowing what it's like to feel free from those chains.

The way time seems to pass these days, that should be about the day after tomorrow... it'll be here before you know it.

Very glad to have both you and NSR in this forum. It wouldn't be what it is without the two of you.
