Hello I am 5 days clean. I did a scratch off on Sunday and gambled at the casino they day before that.

Reason I want to stop is because it is self-harming and destructive behavior. Got introduced to gambling from a friend and he is dead now. Really moving stuff. Taking it one day at a time.

Good job Techguy!

5 days is a good start! I always found that first week very difficult to get through. Lets go for those double digits!

Congratulations ICBD !

I found that stopping gambling was only one part of my journey . The rest of it , ongoing even to this day , consists of letting go of a lot of guilt and practicing self-forgiveness . It's been really hard to come to terms with the regrets . I try to live in the present these days and at times I must reiterate to myself that the past cannot be changed , I can only make my life the best it can be in the here and now .

Discovering why I became a gambling addict was an exercise in self examination for me , it was enlightening but not always pleasant . I had to face some hard truths and work to make changes to the way I deal with issues like stress , loneliness , boredom and insecurity .

I hope you get a job too ! It's been a rough year for us all and my fingers are crossed that things get better for you soon .

Had a relapse last month (March).
Quit on 23rd of March.

Went to the online site to finishing off the free credit about 3 hours ago and to close my account.

So it is Day 0 (3 hours of GF), starting today.

Sorry to hear that RicardoG :( .

But well done for picking yourself back up and getting right back on the road to recovery . Do you have any insight on what caused it ? For me , boredom and loneliness are triggers . In the last few years I've found that stress or frustration just don't bring on the urge to gamble anymore . That's an improvement at least . :D

Welcome back and battle on !

Thanks NSR for your kind words and encouragement.

As the days goes by, I have no more urge.
It all happened when I decided to see the soccer tables and results one-late night... which I shouldn't have done.
I was having some frustration in work-life and was wanting to make extra income (which I failed to land an extra side hustle).
I need to be more cautious and remember that gambling is what got me into debt, and I have not benefited from it...except getting pain and suffering.

Day 8 of GF.

Day 14.

I'm thinking of a side hustle to complement my other job stagnant income.
Don't have any urge anymore.

Well said !

January first was my 7 year milestone . I invite you to match that .

It hasn't been without it's occasional ( and expected ) struggle but as the years go by , gambling is 99.99 % absent from my mind . Bad days don't bring on thoughts of gambling and seeing or hearing about it no longer triggers me . My financial situation is light years away from where it was . The stress of debt , no savings and an uncertain future doesn't keep me up at night anymore .

All of this will happen for you too . The longer we go without gambling , the weaker its grip on us gets .

Keep going - you're doing great !

Congratulations NSR.
