Stock/Option "trading", I mean, gambling

Even though my addiction is stocks, I think GA would help me. Just talking about the inability to stop (whatever it is) would help me, I think. Your wife might get something out of it if she's ready to admit there's a problem. Just my thoughts

Hullflyer & Summerrose - you would be surprised at the people you meet at GA. Many of the folks at our mtgs are battling multi addictions (ie drugs and alcohol as well as gambling) Also, being a casino gambler, I had many assumptions on what GA entailed and of course most of those assumptions were wrong as I pointed out in another thread. I assumed most of the people there were casino gamblers. When I went to the first speaker meeting that was last September, I learned that several folks were into online gambling as well as this day trading, which I never saw as a form of gambling. I do tax work and many clients had multi-page Schedule D's and I never though twice about day-trading. I just thought it was a hobby. I mean, if you are good at predicting a market or whatever, why not? But now I can see how that could consume you and I listened to this speaker talk about what it did to him. So hullflyer, your wife might not be out of place....

I know your correct. Its convincing her thats the problem. I know , admitting you have a problem is the first step. We have just lost our savings and she is talking about just being more conservitive

Alas, that is what compulsive gamblers do. That is what I refer to as controlled gambling It did not work out for me. Being conservative, controlled gambling or whatever you want to call it - it all leads back to the same destructive path....

Controlled gambling is what I am at this very second trying and failing at. It doesn't work. I haven't placed a trade YET today but here I sit, glued to the computer like Pavlov's dog and so I came here instead to try to get past the need to hit 'place order'

It's gotta be cold turkey for me if it will ever happen

OK so I didn't place the order. It's taking every bit of willpower I have but I'm walking away from the computer. One minute at a time.

See now, that lasted 5 mins. I just placed a trade. This is unreal. I just cancelled it but I placed it. And what happened? I'm watching Price is Right... that's all it takes to make me want to 'bet'

How about looking up a GA meeting -- even if it's not too close to you or a bit later or earlier than you would like to -- and going there instead? Use this event as motivation.

I'm hopeless. I've got to do something. I'm down more money (only 300 this time) but still. I was looking for a meeting today but there happen to be none. There's one late Thursday night. I'm going to have to get myself there
