Questions about Trichophilia

Postby noan » Tue May 17, 2011 1:02 pm

I'm in college, and I've been seriously considering a career in the field of Hair Design. However, I have discovered recently that I may have Trichophilia or the haircut fetish. First, I have some questions about this condition and fetishes in general.

1. When I see someone having their haircut, or even think about it, I begin having an erection. However, I feel no mental arousal whatsoever at these times, so does this even qualify as a fetish?

2. Is this condition (fetish or not) treatable, because to me it seems like something that would seriously damage my credibility as a stylist, as if a client were to find out I had such a condition I might look like a pervert (excuse the language, for lack of a better word)?

- Thanks

Well, this is an interesting question.

Now, I don't think anyone would find out that you had this philia unless you told them, but I can't really say it would or would not hurt your credibility. As for me, I could care in the least. At least you have a job you *really* enjoy ;).

All joking aside, I could see some people being uncomfortable with you cutting their hair if they knew. I don't really see why as long as you weren't groping them.

I will give some insight, I have paraphilic infantilism (mostly DL-side). It really doesn't take much to set off an erection, but I don't really have any sexual feeling unless I start them, or actually indulge(I suppose) into my desires. It's as simple as walking past the pharmacy at wal-mart, picking up a package of diapers, or a diaper at all; thinking about them, etc.~ to get an erection in most cases.

Even though it may be embarrassing, would anyone object to me being a pharmacist?

granted this is a slightly different situation when dealing with people. But, I hope maybe this helps a bit.

There are some arguments to whether or not any fetish, or any paraphilia is treatable. You could book an appointment with a sexual therapist (Got the right guy?), talk to your family doctor, other general practitioners, psychiatrists (in this situation?).

But in my opinion, unless it's really causing a burden or affecting your life, don't worry about it!

Its a good thought, as to whether it matters. However, it flat makes me uncomfortable (remember, cutting hair takes place in front of a large mirror). Also, I don't feel attracted or aroused, only certain parts do, whether or not I am cutting or watching. Therefore, I can "indulge" the desires, and only certain parts of me (not including the brain) are aroused. Do you know the psychology behind this?

Hi Noan,

Like you, I too have trichophilia or haircut fetish. I would have the same fear as you have if you are in your saloon. Yes, your condition qualifies as a fetish. Because only some parts are aroused in action, I think you should tight clothes when you will be at work.

Also tell me, since the time you posted this, did you seek medical help or a psychiatrist? What is their suggestion? Any treatment options?
