Biblical perspective on HPD

Postby koos12 » Sat Nov 22, 2008 12:12 am

In the book of proverbs the Bible talks about an adulterous woman. Let me share a few characteristics of a HPD from the Bible:
her mouth is smoother than oil but her end is bitter as worm-wood; her feet go down to death; her steps take hold on hell; her ways are moveable that thou canst not know them; by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread; she's loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house.
Doesn't this sound exactly like a HPD?
I wish I would have been wise enough to heed the warnings from the Bible. It states, "remove thy way far from her, and come not nigh the door of her house: lest thou give thine honor unto others, and thy years unto the cruel: lest strangers be filled with thy wealth; and thy labors be in the house of a stranger; and thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body ar consumed; and say, how have I hated instruction; and my heart despised reproof.

It's amazing how God knows what's best for us. If only we would turn from our sin and trust in Jesus.

Why does the bible say to stay away from such a person, but then in other parts it teaches us to help those in need? Isn't she in need of help?; why should she be ignored?

Depends on many things, man. Use your judgment wisely. Does this person sincerely need help? If yes, then by all means help him/her out. If no, you're better off not helping him/her, especially if his/her aim is to destroy you at the end, and that's what an HPD woman is always likely to do to any man who comes in close contact with them and desires to be intimate with them.

Hi Chucky,

I agree with you here. I don't think that's what the Bible is talking about there, in Proverbs. It's talking about not getting into an intimate relationship with her.

I don't think that applies to everything else. Though it's true one has to be wise. Those with HPD certainly shouldn't be totally ignored especially when they are looking for help. It seems best though, considering their particular problems, the better/wiser thing would be for a woman to help, or counsel her.

I suppose if it's going to be done, most wise churches/ministries, when they have a man counsel someone like this, but only with another woman also present.

I don't think generally speaking, their aim is to "destroy" (try another disorder for that one) the men
- it's to get attention and what they think is love. Many men though, end up feeling destroyed.

Yes, that's true...and God is able to turn around and change anyone- with any kind of disorder if they sincerely want to change.

hmm, considering the Bible is full of "she-devils" starting with Eve who 'tricked' her man, then Mary who was a prostitute, I'm not surprised, that with odds being what they are, the Bible eventually hits on a description that could apply to HPD.

I wonder if it's successful in describing the male NPD just as well?

What's this? - Mary was a prostitute?; and who in the Bible could have had NPD? For the record guys, I'm an atheist.

Hi Kevin,

I've not read the Bible personally, but I do tend to listen to others. I got the bit about Mary the prostitute from the Da Vinci Code, and I've heard others say the Bible depicts Mary as such, but I don't know enough of the details of the Bible to tell you which Mary, whichever one was Jesus' girlfriend? I think there's several Mary's in there.

I wonder who in the Bible could have had NPD? I don't know, but I wondered if the Bible did describe any male in such a way. Or is the Bible only an 'expert' on describing 'evil' women, you know, those one's who deceive and all the rest of it.

Um no

A Personality Disorder is a permanent, long-standing pattern. God, time, or the tooth fairy doesn’t change these personalities. If your mother or father had a personality disorder in your childhood, returning home after twenty years will find their old behavior alive and well.

It says more than that. Keep in mind the Book of Proverbs was originally targeted primarily to the average man in need of wisdom. The man must stay away from such an adulterous woman as best as he can even if she asks for help ... because he will eventually become emotionally attached to her (against his own will) and fall for her deadly trap. This is the Bible's way of saying "no contact".

I do not know if the woman described in Proverbs is HPD, but what is described is an adulterous woman whose aim is to destroy men. If it's not HPD, what is it then? Psychopath?

And if the HPD sincerely is looking for help ... well, that should be counted as a miracle. Because, according to the Bible, only the poor in spirit can see the kingdom of heaven. Can the HPD ever be poor in spirit? Who knows?

It's a shame, but even a couple of "Christian" (religious "Christian") HPDs I know in person still act HPD. And yet they preach the Gospel as if they themselves were saved by the Gospel. But they're surely useful to the churches and ministries with their manipulative and attention grabbing skills.
