HPD and jealousy

Postby friscodyke » Sat Feb 27, 2016 12:44 am

Please no judgement, but does anyone ever get jealous of the attention someone is going to get when you suspect they have a pd? My ex-significant other was diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and had lots of paranoia. Whenever she'd do anything related to having bpd I'd freak out ("oh god she's going to get more attention oh god im finally gonna be the butt of everyones joke oh god everyones finally gonna acknowledge her suffering and not mine") and feel like someone just took a huge sucker punch to my confidence. This has always made it very hard to keep a relationship (as i make the mistake of trying to analyze everyone ive ever met) and I was REALLY hoping I wasnt alone in feeling this. It makes me extremely angry at time and then (as i've read in my journals) I start accusing everyone of faking their illness and that its all just an "act".

Hey friscodyke,

Because your post is really about the impact on the partner of people with PDs, I moved your thread to the Significant Others, Family & Friends forum. A link to the HPD forum has been left so you can still find your post.

Pretty sure the majority of people still consider mental illness imaginary, or at least something to be looked down upon. You must live in an excessively tolerant community if you see people around you getting positive reactions to having a PD.
Strong ASPD traits with NPD/BPD undertones. Sadist, addict, diagnosed PTSD.

Hey friscodyke,

I personally think of it as 'extreme personalities'; while not a professional term, it expresses what others experience.

It happens that others react to those extremes, be it pity, or enthusiasm, or disgust; as well as many other emotional reactions. Yes envy or jealousy are reactions too depending on your relationship with this person.

All part of being human, we react to expression of emotions in others, including fakery and real emotions ;)
