Payee? for Schizoaffective boyfriend?

I am in a relationship with Earl. I love him dearly. But, he is not managing his money very well since he "fired" his last mental health agency's payee. I am going to ask him if he would be willing to have me as his payee. Will he hate me eventually? Has anyone had a successful relationship with a partner when they have become their payee?

If you can get expert financial advice, and it can be patently seen that all your financial dealings on his behalf are totally transparent and above board, and if you discuss his transactions with him in a way that doesn't make him feel controlled or patronized, then this arrangement could work. It could be a huge responsibility, though, and you may need to do this on a long term basis. If for any reason the figures didn't add up, you could find yourself in a position where you would have to justify yourself, so it's important to seek expert financial advice from a professional trustworthy advisor. It would be foolish to undertake something so massive on a purely casual basis.
