Hi,
I had the same experiences, with algebra and geometry.
Have you tried replacing the letters with playdough,(my hubby was my math tutor in college and it kinda helped

). Or pictures? Or using different colors for different parts of the algebraic equations? Also, if you are dx. dyscalcic, and your school accommodates disabilites, that extra time helped me, just the test/time stress would mess me up, so could help you too.
I imagine the first step is to see your learning style, then apply that to algebra to make for better absorption.
