dyslexia- may i have it?

Postby ziggy » Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:49 pm

i realized something has been wrong with me for sometime. i haven't gone to a physchologist yet but i have done alot of [personal investigations and it seemed like asperger's syndrome until dyslexia came around.

here are some not all of the symptoms of dyslexia i have

reading:

*i am an extremely slow reader, my class mates take a couple of seconds to read a pragaph and i take about 2 or three minutes minutes just to read one paragraph and i stutter alot while reading. my reading isn't to fluent, it is almost like word per word

* letters don't confuse me, although if a problem like a math problem is written in words, or logical problems in words will make it very difficult for me to decode

writing:

* my vocabulary hasn't expanded a bit since grade 7. my spelling is almost perfect. but it was in grade 7 we stopped having spelling tests, which were conducted orally by the teacher and since then teachers just give us a list of words for us to learn and include into written work. and i cannot use these words in my written work because i can't remember them and no matter how much i read them they cannot go into my vocabulary. i'm in grade 10 now by the way.

direction and map reading:

*it is quite impossible for me to follow a map. i did orienteering for PE and the map was virtually impossible for me to follow. for other people their problem was speed but they could read the maps well. i don't have speed and i couldn't read the map

* i can't use compasses

* i have some problems in knowing south, west, north and east and also in distinguishing left and right.

other related problems:

* yes like online tests, ask, i did have recurrent chronic ear infections when i was younger. but tbey are long gone.

* my motor skills are terrible. when i play soccer or soft ball people think i'm being lazy because i drop balls and i cannot sense where it's going, but i'm always trying my best.

* i only learned how to make a basic and untight basic shoe lace where u immediately make 2 bows and then join them. the more complicated and tight one where you make one bow and then you put the lace in when i was 11 years old

* i was a big class clown in grade 8 although now i have become a little too quite.

* i have been insulted many times on the web over my writing although i think this post is well written. i have been caled things like " dyslexic turd" which i take offense by because it is not confirmed i have it.

do you people suffering from dyslexia or anyone who knows about think i may have it?

It's quite possible you have dyslexia.
The only way to know for sure is to get tested.
The test are expensive but at least then you'll know whether or not you have it.
