I never really gave dyslexia much thought before. When I was younger and first learning to read and write, I had issues with b's and d' and q's and p's and a few other things, and some relatives started talking about possible dyslexia. I am fairly sure I don't have it. I just happened to come across small tidbits of information on related disorders, and a few things I read hit home. So, my question is, does anything about me match up with related disorders? Either way, I find any information and answers useful.
I have a tendency to type or write the wrong word as I am going along. Depending on the day what I replace a word with varies. For example, on most stress free days, I may not have any trouble, or I will replace a world with something very similar, like a homophone, on a moderately stressful day I'll substitute words in a sentence for one another, or start typing parts of a sentence early or repeat them. Extremely stressful days result in large amounts of spelling mistakes. As I am typing right now, I'm winding up with some of these problems and editing them out almost as automatically.
On a stressful day, sometimes these substitutions cross over into my speech. There may only be one or two instances in a day, or I may have entire sentances jumbled.
I used to write alternating between writing cursive and printing. I've gotten away from this over the years, mainly because I don't write in cursive at all anymore. I am right handed, but while it hurts and is slightly awkward, I can switch over to my left hand with relative ease. I basically decided to give this a try one day when I was bored, and within a half hour I could mimic my right handed writing.
I also cannot type with two hands. I don't understand how to explain it, but using two is extremely awkward. My left hand is what I use to type, while my right isn't nearly as capable.
Also, and I have no clue if this is relevant or not, but I'm having an extremely difficult time learning a dance at school. I have to put a lot of focus into exactly how to move at every point, and exactly when each goes. For the most part I'm doing terrible. I have extreme difficulty learning even the basic steps. At the same time, I can easily make up a dance. I also have trouble with some sports (volley ball, football, baseball) but ease with others (floor hockey, badminton, dodgeball).
So, does this sound like it may be related at all to Dyslexia or to anything, or are these just personal quirks? None of it really effects me very much, except for the dancing thing which plays on my last nerve. Thanks!
