Domestic violence - What should i do? *TW*

What should i do?
My partner (20) who i live with is suspected to have bipolar and schizophrenia by myself and his family - obviously we're not medical professionals and he hasn't been diagnosed (He refused to see anyone).
Last night he tried to commit suicide, i stopped him and then called emergency services. There was no lasting marks from the method used so they couldn't take him/do anything as he was denying the attempt.
After they left he started calling me vial names and saying i ruined his life by calling emergency services.
He tried to leave the house saying he was going to kill himself and it would be my fault.
I hid his keys and called his mum to pick him up (shes been amazingly supportive and helpful dealing with his mental illnesses)
. He then twisted my left arm trying to get me to tell him where his keys where and bit down  hard on my hand. I have a lump there and it was bleeding at the time.
I gave him his keys and told him his mum was coming to pick him up, so did he want to stay until she got here?
He then turned into someone i have never seen before and said i must have enjoyed being raped when i was younger, called me a plethora of ugly and vile names and then attacked me.
He hit me, punched me in the stomach, gave me a giant lump on my head and choked me until i almost passed out. I was scared and yelling for help. My neighbors called the police and one set came over to see if i was okay.
His mum and brother picked him up and i fell asleep from exhaustion.

He called me this morning telling me he's sorry and he's going to seek mental health treatment. He also wants to come back to live with me.
If he did come back i would set up plans of what to do if anything like this happened again - hiding spare keys and a bank card near the door ect.
But I'm undecided, do i let him come back? He hurt me and said some incredibly vile things.
But i do believe the cause was his mental illnesses and a desire to get me to hate him enough I dont care if he commits suicide.

Any advice from you all would be very helpful.

I have a very strong opinion that you should not let him come back. And if he is allowed to come back, he needs to be at a stable point and showing that he intends to keep taking his medication from then on. You should not put yourself in a dangerous position anymore. You have to take care of yourself because no one else will do that for you. I'd like to hear what others here have to say.

I was in a relationship like this. He was terrible and called me all sorts of things, and blamed it all on him depression.
Do NOT let him come back. He’ll say everything he can to get you to forgive him, and when you do, he’ll just continue being violent, and it will escalate. If you let him come back, it’s only a matter of time before you’re hospitalized or killed. And even if he does change (which he won’t), can you really forgive him for assaulting you like that?
I left my asshole for doing this same stuff. I waited around for 6 years listening to him promise to change, and everything just got worse. I can’t express to you how happy I am to be out, and how much I wish I’d done it earlier.
You’ve already done the hard part, he’s out. It gets easier from here, just don’t cave and take steps backward by letting him come back. Stay strong. You deserve so much better.
