DID wardrobe?

Postby lifelongthing » Mon Oct 01, 2012 8:15 am

So yeah, I'm guessing lots of you know what it's like to have lots of different style clothes.. How do you all work that out? How do you have a functioning wardrobe with lots of different styles? Our shopping always takes forever..

What we do is find something that we all or most can be okay with/like or go with the one it's most important to..

Like for example, the kids (especially Anastasia and Frida) are very preoccupied with what we sleep in (it has to be safe, it has to be soft etc etc). So now we've gone a long while before finding two PJ's that function for us adults (meaning not pink with pink and more pink) and those of us who are less feminine & the boy(s?) (one is brown plaid and the other is grey plaid) but still soft enough for Ana and Frankie (so they feel safe) and closed at the bottom for Frida so she doesn't trip and fall (cause our body is pretty short and everything is too long for us) and Lin feels like her legs are not showing/too open at the bottom.

Everything we buy is like this except our socks. Socks are Ana's domain because they keep her flashbacks away :P So we've all agreed to that and have the type of sock she likes (hello kitty socks) in loads of colours so we can be more or less feminine as we please.

All our purchases lately have been like this. We can't afford for all of us to have our own things. We have a very small wardrobe but we need new things for winter because we've used up what we have and it's so stressful and tiresome..

So how do you all do it?

The males tended to come out for my boyfriend before he fully integrated. Although, my boyfriend did have some "feminine" (more gender neutral) clothes for the females, except for this one hello kitty jacket that he originally bought for a girlfriend, but they broke up before he could give it to her, so he decided to give it to the female alters when and if they ever ended up going out to the outside (only one did one time and used the jacket).

The protector is a big fan of trench coats, so when he was out, he decided to spend money (he had his own account that my boyfriend did not know the information for) and bought I think like 5-8 custom made coats for himself. But when I see him, he's worn clothes that make him look like a badass and flashy. He has a very nice sense of fashion. Although, it's not my personal taste in what I like guys wearing. My boyfriend's style is more to what I enjoy (a guy who looks comfy and homey, but also at the same time looking like they can go out right now to the mall without looking like a slob).

The gatekeeper's clothes are just whatever he feels like wearing. He doesn't really care.

I do believe, however, when they are were in his mind, they had a more abundant wardrobe. My boyfriend would actually chose some of the outfits for them because they really didn't care, but some of the others would get mad if he tried to tell them what to wear.

Good Morning Everyone :)

This post really made me smile especially since I myself have been examining our wardrobe alot lately and wondering when I just gave over the choosing of our clothes to the kids haha.

Like for example, the kids (especially Anastasia and Frida) are very preoccupied with what we sleep in (it has to be safe, it has to be soft etc etc). So now we've gone a long while before finding two PJ's that function for us adults (meaning not pink with pink and more pink) and those of us who are less feminine & the boy(s?) I myself have given up on what we wear to bed or just to feel safe and comfortable If the girls dont have THEIR pj's we dont sleep and they have very specific ideas of what those pj's must be like soft pastels nightgowns or pj sets but they have to be pretty

Everything we buy is like this except our socks. Socks are Ana's domain because they keep her flashbacks away :P So we've all agreed to that and have the type of sock she likes (hello kitty socks) in loads of colours so we can be more or less feminine as we please.

Oh Laws another area of life I have given up for the most part ...Thanks the heavens for Target and their xlarge kids socks. During the week if the kids feel the grand desire to wear their socks lace or ruffled cuff socks im stuck wearing long pants in hot Florida but its a compromise as well they feel they are part of my day and they dont try to switch while I am work. other then that we have short pink and white sport socks that we wear with shorts and such.

I do believe, however, when they are were in his mind, they had a more abundant wardrobe. My boyfriend would actually chose some of the outfits for them because they really didn't care, but some of the others would get mad if he tried to tell them what to wear.

We have a very abundant wardrobe that includes big clothes for work but when we are not at work the girls get to choose unless we have to go somewhere important but for being around the hosue or general errands they are pretty good at picking things that wont cause a stir at home they have their frilly dresses and comfort clothes as I consider them. Just seems to be alot less adult stuff and alot more kid stuff around then there used to be in our house but I am okay with that :)

That's pretty sweet :P

Glad we're not the only ones with kids that have very specific wishes to sleep. We're the same way in that if we don't comply we don't sleep so that kinda seals the deal

Oh Laws another area of life I have given up for the most part ...Thanks the heavens for Target and their xlarge kids socks. I know right?? We have thick hello kitty socks always and that means long pants and no sandals etc. But that's better than having Ana switch out every time a stranger comes just a teensy bit closer than she'd like or she hears something. It makes her feel safer so :)

Just seems to be alot less adult stuff and alot more kid stuff around then there used to be in our house but I am okay with that

Yeah we're the same way. More teddies, more kids books, more kids everything. But it's okay. They're a huge part of our every day existence and we love 'em so. Now we don't have much kids clothes anymore but lots of kids socks and things like that. We've told Ana she can pick a pink sweater she wants us to buy though.. :)

Wow, a topic I can actually say something about. Don't know if I should be scared or happy..

I, myself, am pretty neutral about my clothes. I pretty much just wear whatever is handy, I don't really have a preference. Homicidal girl really enjoys wearing makeup. She got an LGBT ring, two earring cuffs, and some kind of Celtic necklace. They are all pretty nice, but I find jewelry to be annoying to wear. She also likes to wear her hair differently, she likes putting part of it in a bun, and leaving the rest down. I have extremely long hair, so it's easy to do a lot of things to it. She prefers the darker colored clothes, as well. Not terribly girly, that one. With her through the roof self-confidence and ego, she always wears this look on her face. A creepy one, really.

There is also another female that is /really/ girly. She enjoys all things ruffly and cute, puffy sleeves, everything. There is quite a lot of clothes that fit her taste. I don't even know much about her, but she knows what she likes. There are a lot of different clothes in my closet, most of the time I just wear whatever, I don't really care who's "it is."

We have lots of different styles in our system too..
Ana likes cute, frilly things; L likes pretty school clothes, Elisa likes goth clothes, Jacob likes boy clothes (especially baggy pants), Lin likes to look sweet but attractive (like a really long wool sweater but with only wool thigh-highs under - she likes being attractive, without being overtly so.. Kind of in a sweet way) but usually ends up hiding in huge clothes that don't fit at all and are for men, I like feminine work-out clothes (like tight clothes for work-out) while one of my splits likes to dress in mini everything and party-type clothes, No Name usually wears Plain clothes (Amish/Mennonite/Quaker style), Aicha likes long skirts and such and Nin doesn't really have a set sense of style.

...It's hard to mix this all into something we're all comfortable with :P

Mostly when I'm out shopping someone will speak up and say they want something and I get it if enough of us want to buy it..if not, I don't get it. I have a few different outfits that I mix up so whoever is out can wear what they want.
For example, today someone wore a pair of striped shorts, boots, and a shirt and we got lots of compliments on it.. other times Sophie is out and she wants to wear kiddish looking things, and when Michael is out I normally end up wearing a t-shirt and little makeup.

Seems we're definitely not alone in this, as I suspected :P

We do the same thing uraeus -- but with 20 people there has to be a lot of people wanting something to make it eligible  We usually choose our outfit based on
1) something that most or everyone will feel at least safe enough in
2) it's appropriate for the things that are happening that day
3) it's appropriate/comfortable for the person who is going to be doing (most) things that day
4) there's isn't some other circumstance where someone is having a rough day and needs their "safe clothes" or something like that
and 5) It's something the person who is out can actually dress themselves in (meaning that while one wants a corset, our 3-6 year olds have no idea how to get into them and will have to wait to get dressed until someone else comes out, which - if it doesn't happen - would mean changing into something else which they are capable of putting on :P)
