all about shay

hi! i'm not shay. my name's cassie! :mrgreen:

i'm 8. but i wanted to make a post about shay cuz i wanted to try and make her feel better by helping people learn more about her. and cuz cassandra's having a hard time believing she's real so i want to help her see that shay's real! :mrgreen:

i'm not always a good explainer. but i'll try my best! :mrgreen:

name: shadow but she goes by shay

age: 20 or 21

about her:

-- shay is mute. or at least she dusn't talk at all. she talks to us by "playing" or "replaying" songs we know. kinda like she's playing a CD or a tape in our head. she plays the parts of songs with lyrics that's closest to what she's trying to say or that she thinks fits what's going on. she knows a little sign language. she knows how to write and type but dusn't seem to like to. unless it's song lyrics. it seems hard for her to come up with her own words instead of just song lyrics.

-- shay has been a radio in our inner world for a long time we've figured out. because she only plays/replays songs/lyrics we know, we didn't think that it was coming from a person or anything. so we saw her as a radio. i hope that makes sense.

like now that i know she's real, sumtimes i still see her as the radio, but sumtimes i see her as the person she is, but i can only see a shadowy person figure. i can't really tell what she looks like. does that make sense? it's like because we thawt she was a radio, we put the image of a radio on her and now that we know she's real we're trying to get rid of the radio image. but cassandra's having a hard time with that...

-- because shay has been a "radio" to everyone she's been sharing control with everyone without them knowing it. when you look like a radio no one notices that you're in the background. so she's up front with whoever's in control like most of the time. just no one usualy knows it.

-- shay dusn't like bright lights or being touched/hugged or wearing uncomfy clothes/shoes like heels or loud high-pitched noises. she also dusn't like change. not like money. i mean she dusn't like doing stuff we don't normally do.

-- shay loves hoodies, our mp3 player, her CD player, her cassette tape player, music, lyrics, big headphones, icky cigaretes, our laptop, doing the same stuff everyday, and mariwana. she gets real upset if she dusn't have a hoodie even if she's not wearing it. she always has to have sumthing that can play music too. and she says smoking mariwana helps her not get so upset all the time and it helps her stay calm when she's trying to comunicate and stuff. i gess she gets frustrated real easy.

-- shay is different. she, um... sumtimes kinda reminds me of the retarded kids my mom used to help teach. :oops:

she's perfect the way she is! :mrgreen:

i'm just trying to share all i can about her is all. not trying to be mean or anything. :oops:

shay dusn't always hear people when they talk to her. she can usualy understand stuff good thou. but she dusn't get jokes. she takes them seriusly. i don't think shay likes looking at people cuz she dusn't make eye contact with anyone like at all. she can be kinda mean but i think it's just cuz she's upset. she's got a really good memory for songs and song lyrics thou! :mrgreen:

You seem real nice!
It's okay to be different. We used to work with kids who are different so we don't mind at all. You're great just the way you are
