Mentors

Postby Sotrsab » Sat Sep 08, 2012 11:57 am

Hi everyone,

I am wondering how you would all feel about having an integrated mentor(s) in addittion to this forum which is great (DIDs supporting DIDs). To me, being able to speak with someone who is a stable integrated soul would be an awesome inspiration when times are tough & you just can't seem to put that next foot forward, when fear rules or when anxiety runs amok.

What are your thoughts?

That would be awesome, if you ask me. Mainly because I would ask them so many questions about how it worked for them and the process, and how I, as somebody who doesn't have DID, can be able to help support my bf who does have it

I think that would be great...I'm sure the topics have been brought up, but having real-time responses would be helpful. I'm always interested in the idea of "If I had known this..." or "If someone had been able to support me in this way.... things would have been SO much smoother..." good thought!

I am in great need of this. I have an alter who continues to sabotage my healing by running out of session before it ever really begins or refusing to talk at all. Last time she completely refused to even go. I would like to know how this type thing would have been handled. :(

I've seen a couple partially-integrated and fully integrated people come and go throughout my time here. It's not like they were kicked out of the site because they were integrated or anything, they left for their own reasons. I do know that when I first joined, there was some hostility being shown towards people who were really for integration and would post about it a lot. I won't go into it because it's not my place, but after that there was a lot less integration-focused posts.

As for your alter, do you know any reasons for why they're doing this? Do they get scared when the time comes to talk? Do they maybe not like your therapist? Are they maybe not ready to talk yet? Is there any way you can communicate with this alter, using self-talk, writing notes, or perhaps even drawing pictures? Try to ask them why they keep running away. Maybe also try and tell them that you want therapy and want to stay in therapy, but be clear about the "you" part. Let them know that they don't have to face therapy yet if they're not ready, but you would appreciate it if they'd let you go and stay. Even if they don't answer, they might still hear you, so be sure to repeat this to yourself to hopefully help you be ready for your next therapy session. Maybe for your next therapy session, you could try writing or drawing instead of talking as well. I would also discuss this problem with your therapist, let them know what's going on and see if they have any helpful tips. Is there a certain point that you keep running away at? Like, is it when you start to talk about something specific, or is it when you simply start seriously talking? This alter might not be used to a therapy environment and so they might not feel comfortable talking seriously in therapy yet. If they won't let only you face therapy by yourself, perhaps you can keep the talk light for a session or two and see if that helps this alter to adjust? Like, small talk, everyday stuff? It might not feel progressive, but it might be progressive in getting all of you used to this environment. Perhaps you could switch focus for a time being and maybe try to work with any littles you might have? Like play therapy or something? I hope you're able to figure this out soon, and that things get better for you. -hugs if wanted-

i think it would be a great idea. i know i have come along way in understanding things better just from reading post and what other people in the same shoes are going through. i almost feel my own understanding ive come to through this site has been more beneficial then my therapist. i think the more we all can learn and come to understand healing takes place and more awareness. and thats really what this site is suppose to be about and lets not forget the support. :P
