Long term Therapist sudden departure!

Postby lifeontheinside » Sat Aug 25, 2012 12:58 am

Hi all,
We have been away for a while from the forums due to many hosting issues and the fact it takes everything we have got to get to work, uni, gym workouts, parenting,we live a very busy life as we have several hosts each living there life.

9 months ago our wonderful long term psych who had been working with us told us She was travelling overseas due to someone in her family getting a job.
obviously we were gutted as it was very unexpected and sudden a younger member off our family who has done the most work with or psych was devastated.

Our psych promised she would be back and continue to see us again she kept her word by maintaining once a week Skype sessions from overseas to check in on us which was very awesome as she got to meet a lot of littles who were to shy to come out in sessions.

She came back from overseas and has done a complete "switch" on us at first saying it may be a while before she can see us and that she was having some personal problems.

long story short we have been seeing her colleague a few times whilst she was away and they are friends, one of our younger ones went to see her to find out what was going on.
Her colleague basically said that our psych will not be returning to psychiatry that amongst other things the profession has become to emotionally hard for our psych to cope with at this stage.
after assuring us it was not us who caused her breakdown.(which we did not believe)

we asked her if she could please tell our psych to call us to tell us herself as our psych promised to call us weekly and it has been 3 weeks since we have heard anything.her colleague keeps telling us that our psych will call us and she has told her she will.....
still nothing

I cant explain the betrayal, confusion that we are experiencing our solid rock for years has now basically gone M.I.A on us and She was the most consistent ,true to her word person I have ever met.
It is so unlike her that we cannot work it out.
we have been very close to hospitalisation this last week..

any replies would be great..thanks

Something may have happened where she herself may be having problems. She's probably going through a lot herself currently. Don't fret too much. We all have times where the world feels like its imploding. I can garentee you though you are not the problem for her. It will be ok. Take the time to work with the new therapist and find a new friend in them. You will get through this.

Hi lifeontheinside,

Wow. What an ordeal! I am so, so sorry this is happening to you. Abandonment & betrayal. I have felt this by a T I had for 7 years. So,so sorry. I know it feels like your world has come crashing down. The trust is gone & all, but I truly believe that your T would be there with you if at all possible. It is in your best interest right now that your T is taking some time off, regardless of the reason of that need.

I send you hugs if wanted. I know its a big blow but plz hang in there. I hope that things go well with your psych's colleague. There are lots of 'blessings in disguise'. Who knows, perhaps down the road you may discover one in all of this. Blessings...Sotrsab.

Thanks for the replies it is much appreciated as we really have no one else to confide in other than ourselves :D we kept the fact we were going to therapy twice a week on the down low.

I think sometimes you can view therapist as these immortal beings, who can face any challenges life throws at them and somehow the safety of there office will continue indefinitely until everyones stories are told and their voices heard.
