Hi.... Was diagnosed couple years ago but had to find new therapist few months ago. Last therapeutic relationship ended in abandonment so we've been hiding from new therapist and have been exploding inside! All bottled up with no outlet and only wasting time in theraPy talking about insignificant things on purpose. Someone revealed us yesterday (not in person) and I'm petrified therapist won't believe us. Haven't heard back from the therapist yet. Feel so naked and as though we should run away. Need to hide! Hard to trust after last therapist. If this one doesn't believe us..... I don't know how he would believe when we're masters at disguising everything. Worried he'll pass it off as scitsophrenia which would feel so invalidatIng. Want to talk to therapist about this but sOmeOne keeps "protecting" us by not letting us talk about it. Advice anyone? Please!! Any words of encouragement would be appreciated so much! Therapist has dealt with dissociative patients but I don't know if he has dealt with "this" exact diagnosis. Maybe therapist will think it's made up and not real!

It is possible that the therapist didn't have experience with this level of dissociation, and the therapist may have reasons for choosing not to believe you, particularly if this is self-diagnosis. But there is enough information out there for therapists that they should be able to find resources and look into the possibility - especially if they work with other forms of dissociation. Most likely, the therapist will consider it as a possibility, at least. And remember, once you open up and talk about things, if the therapist still makes you feel like he/she isn't listening or doesn't believe you, then find someone else. You don't have to stay with a therapist that makes you feel uncomfortable, but you don't know if the therapist will make you feel uncomfortable until you give them the chance to help. So the quickest way to get help from the therapist and the quickest way to get rid of him/her if the sessions don't help you is to open up and give it a try. I know it's a chance, and I know that's scary, but it's the best option. I can promise you that knowing for sure is better than wondering - even if you don't like the outcome, it's better to know so that you can leave and find something better, right?
