Paladin is our resident writer, so I hope no one minds if I have him write my idea for me, cuz he's better with words

It gave a brilliant flash, dispelling the malignant emanations and their effects. Henry urged the bird to land. They hid from a passing Machina trailing wisps of smoke, it seemed to be struggling with twitchy, jerking movements, it's engine grinding loudly. It had vegetation tangled deep into its joints and clogging it's vents. After it left, Coral spotted the pearl on the other side of the track. When she picked it up, she spotted something at the base of a tree, blinking in the sun. As she goes to investigate she trips over something on the way. It is an ancient and rusted Machina, half burried under ground, and nearly invisible amongst the tall grass and trees. It feebly tries to start, shuddering, clanking, clicking, and groaning. A few lights blink weakly before flickering out as it ceases. The other Machina all turn, and hurry over as fast as they can...

I don't see why not. Samsland(sorry I don't remember specifically who ) started it back on page 477, if you want to see the plot first.

"Come on! We have to hide!" Coral said before pulling Henry to a small hole in the ground where they peered at the other Machina as they stood over the broken one. They started taking the Machina apart and pulled out from the broken one....

It's memory core! Now they could have their friend back, just as soon as they built him a new body One turned on its thermal vision to find who had led them to their lost friend...

Luckily for our heroes the tall grass was covered in a cool wet dew and the thermal imaging sensors couldn't pick up their heat. Each of the machina scurried off towards their main base carrying the memory chip. They had planned to rebuild their friend. Henry and Coral decided to follow the machines to their main base, perhaps the pearl would serve another purpose. And perhaps their glass ball could be found as well. Henry looked at Carol, "Did you see that? They seem to have feelings and care about their hurt friend. What should we do?" Both Carol and Henry followed closely behind, silently planning what would come next.

Henry felt a tug at the back of his trousers. It was the squirrel, who had followed them on land because it wanted to see them through their journey. After a moment of hesitation, Henry Coral and the bird turned back and followed the squirrel back to the broken down machina. Without any further explanation, the squirrel scurried into its exhaust pipe.
The others heard rattles, whirls and wizzes from inside the thing and a moment, later, a hatch opened at the back. The squirrel triumphantly stood in the opening, and then beckoned inside. Befuzzled,the other three took a look inside. It was much more spacious than they'd imagined! It featured a control panel, some joysticks, more buttons than should ever be necessary, a big screen at the front, and four seats. Just enough for all the team!
They took their places, eager to find out what this was all about. The squirrel leaned forward in its pilot seat, a smirk of anticipation on its face. It pressed a series of buttons, flipped a switch and turned a dial all the way up to the max. The machina jolted. And then buzzed loudly. They heard a tone that was slowly but very surely ascending, and then...

A screen blinks on, showing a rotating model of the Mechina. A recorded voice starts playing.

The screen blinks out and everyone stares at eachother, "Clean?" Coral ask. Before anyone can answer the two screens beside the first blink on. One rapidly scrolls through a string of red code, the other looks like it's showing the "frame", but most of it is shown in red or blinking. The first screen turns back on, display the words: Emergency Broadcast Recording, and after some static a recording of another voice plays.
Alert! This is Unit10-2-2-3, my frame has been damaged! All right-side mobility systems are crippled! Send a recovery team! My frame cannot move! Hurry, main engine is failing rapidly! Broadcasting last confirmed coordinates. Please hurry, seals are breached, high risk of fluid-damage. Be careful, local flora obscures sensors, the stiffer specimens tear at seals, and the flora's fluids are hazardous to circuits. I should never have come this way, what use is studying such a dangerous environment...
END OF RECORDING flashes on the screen...

there was silence.

Then the squirrel said "what the heck?"

Coral was so startled by the fact that the squirrel spoke english, she jumped and dropped the(i can't remember was it a pearl or a marble) and it dropped into a slot that seemed to be it's home.

Coral said "you speak english! not squirlese!!'

Squirrel said "i'm bilingual"

Henry said "well you could have said something it might be easier if we can COMMUNICATE"

the machina started whirring, suddenly not sounding so broken...it too was searching for the pearl....

Coral looked at Henry.
Henry looked at Coral.
The squirrel looked down at his front paws.

Nobody knew what to do, so it was a good thing that the big ginger cat came along just then. "Excellent work children. Now we need to run!"

"Where?" said Coral.
"Why?" said Henry.
"What?" said the squirrel.

The sound of approaching Machina spurred them to action.

"Follow me back to the cave," yelled the orange tabby cat.

Henry was quick to start running but Coral retrieved her pearl before she followed. The squirrel looked around nervously, trying to decide if he should run or hide.

"Why are we going back to the cave? There's nothing there?" Henry called to the cat.

"So my magic staff is nothing?" said the cat.

Coral started to get a wonderful and strange idea.....but she would have to wait until they were safe in the cave to find out how a cat had a magic staff.
