Im really sorry if i offend people, and if this is a stupid question.
Can someone with DID, have an alter that is addicted/have separate disorders depending on the alter?

Thanks for any reply. Sorry again if I said anything stupid =/

Not stupid at all. The short answer is yes. There are some alters that smoke and others that don't and can't stand it. There are also alters that have things like depression and PTSD etc.

All part of the fun of being multiple :)

thanks though ^^
Do you have a tip on trying to stop an alt from smoking cigarettes ? kinda wastes money and health, and smells horrible.

kinda weird how your example was 1 of the problems. theres just "mayfair" cigarettes everywhere in the bedroom and musky smelling in living room, its getting on my tits.

nicotine patches don't work..

Your body, your rules. Tell them If they want to come out they must abide by the rules and ditch the ciggies. There are also other forums here that deal with addictions that they would be more than welcome to post on if it would help them.

Good luck.

No. Don't promote internal hostility and conflicts. Instead, how about leaving notes for this alter, eg tucked under the cigarette packs, asking him(?) to not smoke in the bedroom. That really isn't safe. He might switch inside while the cigarette is still burning and the next alter out may not realize there is a burning cigarette in the room. Say where it would be okay to smoke. Leaving packs and lighters and butts all over the room isn't cool either. Especially not the lighters. What if the system includes a young child alter who likes to play with fire?

Poppy used to smoke. I could always tell when she was coming through because suddenly I'd taste nicotine in my mouth and/or smell smoke.

I appealed to her caring side by telling her that it makes me really ill when she smokes. And my therapist worked on this too with her. She listened to us both and has stopped smoking. I guess it depends on the attitude of the alter really.

Have you actually asked them to stop and listed your reasons for why? You may be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make compromises with alters.

Hi and nice to meet you btw :)

Well, Poppy and I have had quite a rocky relationship I guess. She used to be very argumentative, constantly causing arguments with my partner. She still is very unsure of my partner and really dislikes certain things about him (she has very strong feelings of hate at times) but she doesn't cause havoc just for the sake of it anymore. She is actually very protective of me and I have come to see her as an external protector who will fight anyone who so much as tries to manipulate me physically or emotionally. She is very blunt and will just tell people how she sees it without sugar coating any words. She claimed at the beginning that she doesn't care about anyone or what anyone thinks but she is building a rapport now with our T and very much cares about what he thinks. Mostly now she is quite light hearted, sarcastic, and funny. Until someone annoys her

How in the hell did you get hostility and conflict from that? All she meant was that there must be rules and communication for any system to function properly and that they need to talk about the rules if they're not being followed. Geez, can't anyone here read between the lines, does everything have to be spelled out?
