shaking when not scared

Postby The Cat's Meow » Thu May 24, 2012 3:54 am

One of the things that I do after my session is to go to my car and "nest" with a sleeping bag and some stuffed animals. Every time, when I first get there, I spend the first several minutes shaking, even though I'm not feeling scared at all. Eventually I end up in a trance state that is useful for solidifying that work that I did in session. I don't think that there is necessarily a connection between the shaking and the trance state. Sometimes in session and at home, I will also find myself shaking, even though I'm not feeling scared. My intuition is that this shaking serves some purpose, but I have no idea what it is. Does anyone else experience something like it? I suppose that it could be something as simple as a release of tension, but it seems to be something more than that.

Shaking after a stressful experience is how the body releases the hyperarousal triggered by the experience. The shaking is perfectly normal and healthy. Go ahead and let your body shake as much as it wants.

When Jaenelle and a few of the others get angry, our body goes ice cold. Hands, feet, face... teeth chattering... body tightens up, shivers and shakes... A lot of people seem to get "hot" when they are angry, but they go into this cold rage that just mystifies me. *I* don't do that. I get "hot" like most other people.

Point being, bodies react wildly different in situations. It could be anything, but I suspect Una+ is correct. It's the body reacting to stress.

Indeed - let your body shake as much as it wants!! That is what my T says to me when I encounter stuff like that... doesn't even need to make sense... your body is doing it therefore it needs to be done. If that makes any sense... (its early)
