Suggestion for Littles w/body confusion

Postby HopeIsHere » Sun May 06, 2012 2:26 am

Alex, the Protector alter in my son brought up a great suggestion to help the 2 little ones in the system. He told them that when they are 'out' it is like putting on a costume. They may look completely different, but they are still themselves inside. This seems to help.

I mentioned in another post - but for those who didn't see it - gender confusion can be handled by a Little 'getting' an alter the same sex as the body to handle bathroom/shower duty.

Also - I have told them (before the costume idea) that they are a family inside but when they come to visit me - they just need to use the special door which allows them to use "Daddy's" body to be here. It is a simple answer they accept.

We still have some confusion and sadness when they feel their arms are too long or are upset that they are taller than me when they stand...and we try to just avoid this by sitting together...but if they see themselves or 'remember' the costume idea has seemed to help. "This isn't me...but I know that because I put on the costume to come see you" :)

Another thing - someone suggested buying a larger stuffed animal so that it feels more right proportionally (thank you!!!) and we have done this and also do some activities on the floor (color while laying on belly) just to not have the chair/table comparisons, etc.

Just some successes we have had...
