How often and Does this happen to anyone else?

Postby KellerWhite » Wed Apr 04, 2012 11:19 pm

Do anyone else's alters seem to run off? Or even to leave a place that you feel safe and go somewhere you would never see yourself or them going? She's done it for as long as i can remember that she's been around, but my mother told me about several occasions that i have called her from towns away, and in another instance i went across the country on a bus, and called her from California, it's just recently that I've chosen to see anyone for help, and am actually committed to healing, just looking for some help and answers ya know?

You are describing dissociative fugue, which some researchers lump in with dissociative amnesia. This is not unusual in DID. Many of us have experienced it.

I have not experienced it, as far as I know, but I have experienced finding myself suddenly naked. One moment I am decently clothed, the next poof all my clothing is gone. Obviously some time has passed...

We had thought that it could possibly be a dissociative fugue, but i had no memory of who i was at that moment, no thought of who i was, this to me seems to be the formation of another alter, but could also be a fugue, i had a time lapse during the entire day that i was in the fugue like state, and just woke up int the hospital, one second sitting in my living room, and 20 hours later i was in the hospital with no idea what had happened, and after my girlfriend had filled me in on all the details, we did some research and found out about fugue states, however the formation of most of my alters is typically to stop another alter from doing something, because for some reason i have no idea how to transfer when they have taken over, but the alter themselves are capable of stopping them, if that makes sense.

Once lil rose got so scared she ran away to the park down the street. So one minute I was in my room the next minute I was three blocks away in the slide tower. Another time my mother was in the emergency room with kidney stone pain, I was sick with strep throat and running a fever but I sat in the waiting room with my sister in law. Jay realized I was over doing it and switched and told my sister in law how sick I was and she took him home and he put me in bed. she was shaking and about to pass out, of course someone needed to take her home since she refused to leave. I have no memory of leaving the waiting room only to wake up in my bed. I'm sure there are many other times, but none that are very hard to explain why they left where i was I guess.

KellerWhite, dissociative fugue and fugue state are two different things. A dissociative fugue is simply an experience of finding out that you have unexplained travel during an episode of lost time. The subjective experience often is exactly as you describe: you suddenly "wake up" in a new place. Usually the duration of lost time is just minutes or a few hours but in some cases years have passed. When this happens to someone who does not already have a diagnosis of DDNOS type 1 or DID, the event may be diagnosed as a Dissociative Fugue. Dissociative Fugue is rare and many researchers believe it is always a misdiagnosis, that in fact the person actually has unrecognized DID.
