The "guys" and I have certain music we listen to in relation to DID.

Never Grow Up by Taylor Swift
I usually play this one for Chibi and Kiddo.

Your little hand's wrapped around my finger
And it's so quiet in the world tonight
Your little eyelids flutter cause you're dreaming
So I tuck you in, turn on your favorite night light
To you everything's funny, you got nothing to regret
I'd give all I have, honey
If you could stay like that

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
I won't let nobody hurt you, won't let no one break your heart
And no one will desert you
Just try to never grow up, never grow up

You're in the car on the way to the movies
And you're mortified your mom's dropping you off
At 14 there's just so much you can't do
And you can't wait to move out someday and call your own shots
But don't make her drop you off around the block
Remember that she's getting older too

And don't lose the way that you dance around in your pj's getting ready for school

Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
No one's ever burned you, nothing's ever left you scarred
And even though you want to, just try to never grow up

Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room
Memorize what it sounded like when your dad gets home
Remember the footsteps, remember the words said

And all your little brother's favorite songs
I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone

So here I am in my new apartment
In a big city, they just dropped me off
It's so much colder that I thought it would be
So I tuck myself in and turn my night light on

Wish I'd never grown up
I wish I'd never grown up

Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
I could still be little
Oh I don't wanna grow up, wish I'd never grown up
It could still be simple
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, just stay this little
Oh darling, don't you ever grow up
Don't you ever grow up, it could stay this simple
Won't let nobody hurt you
Won't let no one break your heart
And even though you want to, please try to never grow up
Oh, don't you ever grow up
Oh, never grow up, just never grow up

Confrontation from Jekyll and Hyde (the Broadway musical)
Jack and Johnny are fascinated with this song because it's both Jekyll and Hyde singing. If I ask them nicely sometimes they'll both sing in for me, but generally Jack just likes to sing Hyde's part in a creepy voice. d: (I won't quote that song for possible trigger reasons.)

Man With the Child In His Eyes by Kate Bush
I play this one for HIM and Luke, because even though they're two halves of the same person, we consider Luke to be HIM's childish side.

I hear him, before I go to sleep
And focus on the day that's been.
I realize he's there,
When I turn the light off and turn over.

Nobody knows about my man.
They think he's lost on some horizon.
And suddenly I find myself
Listening to a man I've never known before

Telling me about the sea,
All his love, 'til eternity.

Ooh, he's here again,
The man with the child in his eyes.
Ooh, he's here again,
The man with the child in his eyes.

He's very understanding,
And he's so aware of all my situations

And when I stay up late,
He's always waiting, but I feel him hesitate

Oh, I'm so worried about my love.
They say, "No, no, it won't last forever."
And here I am again, my girl,
Wondering what on Earth I'm doing here.
Maybe he doesn't love me.
I just took a trip on my love for him.

Ooh, he's here again,
The man with the child in his eyes.
Ooh, he's here again,
The man with the child in his eyes.

Other songs of ours:

I Can't Go On Without You by Adam Pascal
Johnny's song. I dedicated it to Johnny to moment I heard it because it was spot-on.

Kokomo by Beach Boys
Chibi's song. Possibly Luke's song too. Make them happy and nostalgic of the past.

Down With The Sickness by Disturbed
Jack, Dante, Ka'el and even our friend with DID's angry alter Malice, are all attached to this song.

Halloween by Aqua
'nother one Ka'el and Malice like. Our friend's alter Eddie likes it too.

The Devil's Toybox by Uninvited Guest
Song I picked for Ka'el after he showed me Halloween. He found it rather appropriate.

Today we heard this song: For today I am a boy by Anthony and the Johnsons. Our littles really liked it and identified with it, even though they are girls. I'd imagine a woman with with boy alters would feel it even more so. But either way we really liked it. Also been listening to these lately:
flyleaf – all around me (acoustic)
christina aguilera – voice within
dar williams – it’s alright

Nin/Lin - Flyleaf for sure! :)
I love music. And lately, I listen to the lyrics more... I hear these little hints that make me wonder. Also...I start to wonder if Stan Lee or certain artists in media had some experience with Identity issues just because of how he has set up so many different heroes and villains and all...anyway. Love the topic!

Actually, I saw a post sometime ago - off the subject somewhat - a gal said that she made major strides with a Christian lullabye CD that she played often to her littles...Anyone experience sucess with this? She swore it worked.

DDNOS music: for me ncludes just about anything by patti smith, including:

"Ain't it strange"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg7Fe_EcnRw

"land"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7r9h8E5JSzU

And even though she isn't patti smith, pat benatar had a few good songs, including the unforgetable (and triggering) "hell is for children"

Estranged by Guns N' Roses

When you're talkin' to yourself
And nobody's home
You can fool yourself
You came in this world alone
(Alone)

So nobody ever told you baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to you baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see
One, two

Old at heart but I'm only twenty eight
And I'm much too young
To let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart

I don't know how you're s'posed to find me lately
An what more could you ask from me
How could you say that I never needed you
When you took everything
Said you took everything from me

Young at heart an it gets so hard to wait
When no one I know can seem to help me now
Old at heart but I musn't hesitate
If I'm to find my own way out

Still talkin' to myself
And nobody's home
(Alone)

So nobody ever told us baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to us baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time
An now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground

And you don't talk so loud
An you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for

Well I jumped into the river
Too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines

'Cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves they get so high
Seems everything we've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

I'll never find anyone to replace you
Guess I'll have to make it through, this time - oh this time
Without you
I knew the storm was getting closer
And all my friends said I was high
But everything we've ever known's here
I never wanted it to die

I searched for this topic, apparently only to post another GNR song after the last post in thread. :)
Trigger warning: the music video contains violence, self-harm and domestic abuse related material, as well as parts that refer to drowning, so only watch if you are sure it doesn't upset you too much. It's worth seeing.

Soundgarden "live to rise"

What if all you understand
Could fit into the center of our hand?
Then you found it wasn't you
Who held the sum of everything you knew

We're insane but not alone,
You hold on and let go

Like the sun we will live to rise
Like the sun we will live and die and then ignite again
Like the sun we will live to rise again

What if the one thing that I missed
Was everything I need to pass the test?
And if I fail what happens then?
Can I still count on you as a friend?

We're insane but not alone,
You hold on and let go

Like the sun we will live to rise
Like the sun we will live and die and then ignite again
Like the sun we will live to rise again, again, again, again.

Warm my face
Warm your face
Warm my face
Warm your face
Warm my face
Warm your face
Warm my face
Warm your face
Warm my face
Warm your face

Like the sun we will live to rise
Like the sun we will live and die and then ignite again

Like the sun we will live to rise
Like the sun we will live and die and then ignite again
Like the sun we will live to rise again, again.
