Some peace and quiet

Postby Encircled » Fri Jan 06, 2012 2:08 am

Our system can get a little too hectic sometimes, because there are arguments, or someone will start screaming for no reason, or another will get too angry, and things like that. When it does, we usually play music through some headphones (speakers don't work for us well) and it'll help calm everyone down when no one will listen to any one else. Everyone will stop to listen to the music. This obviously doesn't solve this problem long term, but it works great temporarily when there's a sudden panic. And we're all okay with it, conditionally.

So, what do you guys do to help those in your system calm down, or keep calm?

I had never thought about it but yeah, we totally use music too. Or nature, or exercise. But the music thing is I think a normal part of calming ppl. Kids play better together when there is music on and background music is around for a reason! :D

I draw because it calms everything. EVERYTHING shuts off when I'm drawing whether it's traditional drawing or on photoshop. I let it go, like, voice go on and screams and everything insde but when i'm drawing i'm able to sit through it and it's like background noise because I get so absorbed that eventually it quietens after a couple of hours.

It's like trancing myself out of it I suppose.

To be honest, about 6 or 7 months after the core stopped taking her medicine, we have been smoking pot at night time to calm everyone down. I don't know if it calms us down directly or if it is because the person in the body has calmed down so everyone else senses a down or calm time. This is not a long term goal or solution. We know we need medicine.

The core also likes to meditate. It is even better than the smoking. It calms the entire system completely. It feels good too.

Jennifer, the roommate, the core's best friend, said that Silent Screamer likes the calm wood instrument CD that Jennifer gave to me on Christmas. (This was the first year any of us got our own presents. It was a lovely day.)

Cool thread. Hmm. I drink coffee  :Jittery smile:, just drinking, the flavor, the feeling of the liquid on my tounge, is soothing. I like to draw, milk or garden, time to zone out, but rarely have time, so I settle for coffee. Five minute calm of sipping, then go, go, go!
