Your thoughts

Postby InfinitD » Thu Dec 22, 2011 3:56 am

Was wondering what you think about this:

A few times recently our T has said things like she's not sure if it is helpful to Meagain to talk about the past because it just seems to make her worse. I guess I don't understand what else there would be? If she doesn't talk it out how can she ever get better? I think our T said something recently like we made it many years without the problems we're having now. (though Meagain is the reason we went back into therapy in the first place so ?) What do you think our T is saying?

I think it's cool that a therapist can say that, and I beleive it's true that sometimes talking can make things worse. You asked what else there could be besides talking. There are creative therapies like art, dance and music therapy, for instance. Maybe she could try one of those in order to start healing safely?

I agree with under ice. Is your T trained in play therapy? This has worked wonders for me when talking is almost retraumatizing.

Does she mean short term or long term? Perhaps ask for clarification... In the short term perhaps she is saying that your system isn't ready to talk about the past and things need to be done before all of this talk so as to stop the retraumatisation. But I don't believe in not talking about the past at all. But that's just my opinion.
