DDNOS which disorder is it more like?

So if I have been diagnosed DDNOS with dissociated ego states w/o amnesic barriers but have so many symptoms of derealization which dissociative disorder am I more leaning towards? Is DDNOS more of a DID type disorder? Thanks

DDNOS is a bit like DID because of the dissociated ego states, but not completely, because the ego states aren't as complete as alters and there's no amnesia involved. But all dissociation disorders have derealization as a symptom. So...I'd say you're vaguely leaning more towards a DID-type disorder, but it's not exactly DID since DDNOS is its own disorder. Derealization, depersonalization, dissociation...they're all symptoms.

I believe in the theory that dissociative disorders are in a continuum. Like PTSD->Complex PTSD->DDNOS->DID.
WIthout clear "you are this or that". So a person with DDNOS may be nearer to Complex PTSD or be very near to DID. Or anything between those. I'm Dx DID, but might be also DDNOS, like am a "mild" DID...

Ashley, it sounds like your therapist has diagnosed you DDNOS type 1, also known as DID-like DDNOS. This is a specific diagnosis in DSM-IV that for political reasons is in the DDNOS "wastebasket" category rather than given a separate diagnostic name and number. Most people with this diagnosis eventually can be, and often formally will be, diagnosed with DID.

DSM is being revised and for DSM-5 it is probable that DDNOS type 1 will be merged into DID.
