Una here. I am the host in my system. In the context of DID, integrated means those alters are no longer separate but have fused with the host and/or one or more other alters. Fusions can happen spontaneously, but many DID systems in psychotherapy use a carefully planned fusion ritual guided by the therapist. Often the fusion ritual involves imagery.
In my case the first fusion was a bizarre and extremely intense experience. It was spontaneous and I had no idea what was happening. It happened during sex with my husband. I had become aware that Teen Girl was present and participating, and I welcomed her. Then, in the moment of orgasm she and I somehow dissolved together into one. Alter 1 fused in a similar manner. Both times I was aware that there were others present but not participating, only observing.
It appears that Teen Girl was created to deal with an interpersonal situation that never came to pass. She was held in stasis for 30 years. Alter 1 was created during a single (?) incident of sexual abuse followed by chronic parental neglect and denial. Alter 1 has been very active throughout my life but always more or less covert. In both cases, fusion followed my coming to know and accept these parts of myself. Post fusion there is a period of adjustment.
