Thank you. I wish you and everyone here an equally rapid resolution of whatever symptoms or other issues are causing you distress.

Thank you kindly. A year or so ago we were more or less free of the PTSD. Our only signs were the OCD (which is tightly knit to trauma) and recurrent startle responses with selective mutism. These might sound like a lot of signs, but compared to how it had been and how it is now (after new trauma occurred) it was excellent. Of course, I also didn't know about all my parts back then :) We are working on our way towards healing though and we are making huge strides lately. Thank you for all your knowledge and your posts on here - I'm always interested when I see something written by you :)

Here is the abstract of a new journal article about research using the MID. Paul Dell now has MID scores from over 2,500 individuals.
J Trauma Dissociation. 2013;14(1):25-39. Three dimensions of dissociative amnesia. Dell PF.

Abstract: Principal axis factor analysis with promax rotation extracted 3 factors from the 42 memory and amnesia items of the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) database (N = 2,569): Discovering Dissociated Actions, Lapses of Recent Memory and Skills, and Gaps in Remote Memory. The 3 factors' shared variance ranged from 36% to 64%. Construed as scales, the 3 factor scales had Cronbach's alpha coefficients of .96, .94, and .93, respectively. The scales correlated strongly with mean Dissociative Experiences Scale scores, mean MID scores, and total scores on the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV Dissociative Disorders-Revised (SCID-D-R). What is interesting is that the 3 amnesia factors exhibited a range of correlations with SCID-D-R Amnesia scores (.52, .63, and .70, respectively), suggesting that the SCID-D-R Amnesia score emphasizes gaps in remote memory over amnesias related to dissociative identity disorder. The 3 amnesia factor scales exhibited a clinically meaningful pattern of significant differences among dissociative identity disorder, dissociative disorder not otherwise specified-1, dissociative amnesia, depersonalization disorder, and nonclinical participants. The 3 amnesia factors may have greater clinical utility for frontline clinicians than (a) amnesia as discussed in the context of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition, nosology of the dissociative disorders or (b) P. Janet's (1893/1977 ) 4-fold classification of dissociative amnesia. The author recommends systematic study of the phenomenological differences within specific dissociative symptoms and their differential relationship to specific dissociative disorders.

(I know this is an old thread, but this seemed to be the most appropriate, so that's why I'm asking here)

Is it possible/recommended to do the MID yourself, without a therapist? Just like the DES? I see it's in the public domain, so it should be possible to do, but I'm wondering whether it would have any negative effects (like, scoring the wrong way or something like that).
Dx: PDD-NOS. Tested for dissociative disorders and PTSD but they say the symptoms are attributable to PDD-NOS.

No. The scoring is very complex and the results are not a simple numeric score. The results are very complex and rich, and so is the interpretation of them. In some respects the MID is even more complex than the SCID-D-R.

However, I do think there may be value in you filling out the MID instrument on your own, as a kind of self-assessment, even if you do not get it scored and interpreted.

Ok, then maybe I'll fill it in, just to get an idea of what kind of questions there are. And while it is certainly not a real test that way, just looking at the average score will, I would think, give some idea.
Think I'll post when I've filled it in, if I try.

This post serves mostly to bump the thread.

Also, I receive a lot of questions about how to get the MID done. Here is how I got it done the first time. I downloaded and printed the MID and articles about it. (Links to them are in this thread, on the first page.) I filled out the MID and I gave it and the articles to my therapist and asked her to score it or get it scored.

I hear the Pottergate Centre will do the scoring for you by mail.

STOP THE TRUCK! Somatoform symptoms? Pain with no seeming cause? This is a THING?

Because my SO, GP and myself have been trying to trace some root causes to different physical things, and are coming up negative. Is there a way you could quickly expand Una?

Hey there was just wondering how much difference between the the ones spoken about here and the ones the pottergate.centre / dissociation.co.uk do? And are we talking about the ones that dissociation.co.uk send out for free or the one you do at the centre?

Also was wondering una+ you said you could down load the software- do you have to pay to be a member and do you have to pay for the software?

Chewers and hope you can help

Yes, membership in ISSTD costs money. As I said before, your best bet is to fill out any assessment forms and give them to your therapist for them to score or have a colleague score for them. This builds the professional skills of your therapist and encourages the kind of consulting relationship with other therapists that your therapist is going to need in order to help you most effectively.

I just had this scored. Its "diagnostic impressions" were PTSD, Somatization Disorder, and DID. Needless to say, I'm kind of shocked. Personally, I don't think I have DID, but I'll have to wait and take a SCID-D to know for sure. I kept going back and forth on a lot of answers because a lot of the phenomena has happened to me, but not for a very long time. For instance, I had more episodes of 'amnesia' in childhood, but hardly any now.

Regardless, I'm a little freaked out. A professional program thinks I qualify as DID? It's kind of scary. I have my own reasons for not thinking it's full-blown DID that aren't just denial, but I'm still spooked. It's triggered a lot of questioning about the validity of my answers and experiences, to be honest.
