My story is slightly different. Never heard of MPD/DID. No interest. I was busy, very busy being me. Successful professionally. Successful in a number of areas professionally. Elite in a number of competitive sports. Some blanks.... where I completed a project, came up with campaigns, took a first...didn't quite remember details sometimes. Just reviewed it. Just like everyone!! Always got comments about my diverse activities, high energy level. Just thought other people were lazy. Had a serious reaction to a medication & was hospitalized. Depression set in as an expected side effect. My medical tests were all over the place. Normal, off, greatly off, depressed, fine, normal. Was in a hospital with an *open* ward. Reluctant to send me home, so went there. Learned to play pool there!! A psychiatrist was on the ward. Nice lady didn't mind talking to her informally. After release, she asked if I'd continue to see her as med tests were still *wonky*. Then one day she said: you know how you do this, you do that. *Yup, so?* There's a word for that. Dissociative Disorder. Then she invited me to a get together with 3 other highly successful clients of hers. We had an instant understanding of each other. Never felt that before. Following week she said there's a more precise term for that kind of dissociation. Hence my dx. Stayed friends for years. Laughing at *normals* a lot. DID wasn't interfering with our life. It was a benefit. We'd been DID all our lives. Nothing changed with the Doc's dx.
