I've now seen three episodes of season 1. My friend says it gets better. :P Which is good 'cause she keeps annoying me. I'm not really sure how to explain it, but like...seeing them as an imposition? I don't know. We appreciate every single one of us a -lot- because they all helped us get through some really awful things. So when someone wants time out, I try to give it to them and change clothes for them, and get toys out and stuff.

I must say the first couple of episodes annoyed us too xD, but it does get better. It might not be the same way you cope with DID (or we do, for that matter), but yeah.. we do feel it ends up becoming insightful :)

first season starts off rather awkwardly.

second season is awesome. but was the most "triggering" for us, but much better than the first.

third season is a mess, cause of the early cancellation.

stick with it. you might even learn to like T eventually.

The website of the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation has a couple of pages devoted to United States of Tara. There is a detailed plot of each episode, followed by an expert commentary. The commentaries are worth reading.

ISSTD: US Tara - Season 2
ISSTD: US Tara - Season 3

I'm still stuck on season 3, it got way too triggering, from what looked like a light comedy I wanted to watch in the evenings while having dinner and learning a bit about DID in the process, then *TW* self harm got in then picture and my own evil alter came out and hurt me after watching some of those dark episodes, I decided not to watch it again untill I feel more stable, which IDK when it will happen. I don't wanna watch a show that'll make me hurt myself, I just wanted to have some laughs.

L0rena, I am so sorry. Yes, that TV series is triggering for many of us. For me parts of Season 1 were the most difficult. Perhaps reading the plot synopses and commentaries before watching the episodes would help. But don't do that either, until you feel stable enough and want to do it.

I understand that. I stopped watching because...something (I think maybe what felt like a build up to conflict) was bothering me... Was uncomfortable... a little fear maybe? I have a hard time labeling my emotions    .

I barely made it through this show, especially season 3. And I don't even have DID!

I've gone through several periods of "yes, I do dissociate," and "no, i don't dissociate!" over the past few years. In the latter periods, this show terrified me. Everything to do with DID and dissociation terrified me. Starting to watch the show again was a big step for me. I haven't made it more than halfway into the first season, though. Toni Collette is just so good at her role.

The commentaries are very interesting. I'll have to finish reading them when I have time.

(Also, Bryce is terrifying. Again, I don't have alters of any kind, but I do have self-destructive behavior that comes out of nowhere, and I saw a lot of it mirrored in his behaviors towards Tara.)
