I have not seen you post lately! I missed you!

I had to throw away any of the old ideas of the past including that in the DSM-IV and go with the new proposed DSM-V. Childhood amnesia is not a criteria, however I believe amnesia for the traumatic events during childhood is.

If you do not meet the below criteria you are DID-like DDNOS.
DID-like DDNOS is where you have definite multiples, but you do not loose significant time in a day. This is the goal to be for those with DID, to work towards this and then of course to continue to heal. You do not want DID! This is just one step closer to healing. It does not mean you would not have been DX'd with DID at an earlier time in life, but you have it more together now.

Dissociative Identity Disorder DSM-V (proposed)

A. Disruption of identity characterized by two or more distinct personality states or an experience of possession, as evidenced by discontinuities in sense of self, cognition, behavior, affect, perceptions, and/or memories. This disruption may be observed by others or reported by the patient.

I think everyone here has this.. right? Or we would not be here.

B. Inability to recall important personal information, for everyday events or traumatic events, that is inconsistent with ordinary forgetfulness.

The important part here everyone is EVERYDAY events! This does not mean your childhood. This means today. When it's present time its called loosing time rather than amnesia.

C. Causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning. *

Even if you think you are okay, most that know you will say you are not.

a) With non-epileptic seizures or other conversion symptoms

The seizures made it clear to me that I needed to get help.

b) With somatic symptoms that vary across identities

Identities will have different measurable things like vision, blood pressure, allergies, etc..

Thanks Tylas! It's nice to be missed. I've been around. Just not posting much.

So, in your opinion, dissociative amnesia for childhood trauma is included in criterion B :?:

I'm actually not that worried about my dx anymore...I think I am "DID-like" DDNOS.
It just struck me the other day that, if the answer to the question above about criterion B is a 'yes', then I actually fit the criteria for DID and they really have widened the net a bit (if they go with this version).

Thanks, Zel.

They do need to make that more clear, but I don't think it has anything to do with Childhood Amnesia. The question in B is if you loose time during the day. If there are moments during a present day that are lost to you.

That's a healthy attitude! I would rather be DDNOS, but I really thought I was DID, so my DX of DDNOS did bug me! If I felt I was DDNOS I would be so happy with that. I just want my whole brain working together and happy for myself and for my kids! My kids are the whole reason I am even dealing with all this.
