everything seems so far away "pos trig"

Postby sanan22 » Sat Jul 30, 2011 8:47 am

I was at some gathering few days ago when my 'little brother' (internal alter) came out saying he doesn't want to stay there because "there are so many, yet there is no one". that was the start of this weird feeling that everything was so far away, a small room seemed like a mall and every sound seemed like being several tens of meters away. like my body was "in the middle of nothingness". I remember my sister tried to talk to me but her face looked so 'weird' and 'curved'

my sister came to me apologizing next day because I wouldn't respond to her the night before, thinking that I was angry at her. she also said that I didn't respond to any others which she thought was embarrassing.

I didn't explain to her, but the reality is: I couldn't hear or see anything clearly (beside myself).

has anyone experienced anything like this before? please give some hints if you have some.

thanks

Sorry to hear that you're feeling that way. Sounds like depersonalization to me, at least the feeling that everything is far away. I've had lots of DP symptoms in the past.

I've also occasionally felt that people's faces are too large and bizarre, especially after my daughter was born there was a period of time when all the grownups looked like monsters in my opinion, I almost couldn't bear seeing their faces. Maybe that was a mild psychotic reaction due to lack of sleep and generally being exhausted. I've had the same thing happening only milder when sleep deprived, and twice when I ran a high temperature I couldn't look at anyone because their faces looked distorted.

Have you slept enough lately? Hope you feel better soon. :)

I had what I guess was a psychotic episode/dp episode too when I hadn't slept at all the night before(I was in the hospital). Everyone looked like they were growling and snarling at me, and all I could do was bury my face in my dad's shoulder cuz I was sooo scared by literally everything.
And there have been times in my T's office when I thought her chair had wheels cuz it looked like she would zoom up super close or it looked like she zoom out really far away. There are also times when the lights get really dim or really bright in her office, or the paintings change, or the color of the walls change, or the desk looks completely different, or all the books on the bookshelf disappear. I don't know if this would be psychotic or depersonalization lol. Stuff has gotten really blurry before...that was right after I had gotten REALLY scared of something. Another time I felt sooo cut off from the entire world and all the people in it, like I was in a dream, and I started to FREAK OUT I thought if I didn't go outside right then and there I would cry or scream or something.

Good luck cuz I know all this gets scary sometimes

Yes. It is called derealization and is closely related to (or a kind of) depersonalization.

thanks alot for information.
it happened again today and this time all faces looked 'pulverized' (like dust moving in the wind).
I guess this happens when I try to dissociate from my surroundings

We've been like this for about 36 hours now, so can sympathize with how uncomfortable and scary it is. Are you sleep-deprived? We think ours was set off due to sleep-deprivation. Whatever the case, we hope you're feeling better because it's a really horrible feeling.
"A man goes far to find out what he is--
Death of the self in a long, tearless night,
All natural shapes blazing unnatural light.

Dark, dark my light, and darker my desire.
My soul, like some heat-maddened summer fly,
Keeps buzzing at the sill. Which I is I?"
