Hi weeble,

I know, it can be quite confusing. Did you take the test on this webpage?
http://www.rossinst.com/sample_forms.html

If you scroll all the way down, it talks about scoring. There is not one "score" for the entire test, but rather each section is scored separately. On some, you need to answer a certain number "positive" to be considered a YES for that particular section. On some sections, you need to answer positive for specific questions and negative for others, and they tell you which questions those are. It explains it at the bottom of the web page, you just need to read carefully, and score each section independently.

Does that help??

I ran out of patience when I supposed to score it. I couldn't print the thing at all and had my points scribbled up on a notebook page, and it took ages to score it... I gotta look at it later again.

I'm VERY comfused still.... does a score of YES-1 indicate a positive result or a negative result??... i just did it and because i answered the last DID question as a no, I'm not considered DID?? Or am i marking it wrong??

"130. Is the problem with different identities or personalities due to substance abuse (e.g. alcohol blackouts) or a general medical condition?
Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]"

Should i be saying Yes? or NO? (Its not from alcohol or drugs etc)

Do you still count the "No" responses (with the corresponding number) in your total score for the section? or only count the "yes" responses??(with the corresponding numbers)

someone shed some light PLEEEEASE!!! I'm SOOO confused!!!!! :lol: :oops:

Brandic- thanks heaps for that link, it made things MUCH clearer!!! lol i've read and re-read the questions and my answers and i'm still confused :oops: :oops: :(

thanks

DDIS question #130 has a typo that causes a lot of confusion.

130. Is the problem with different identities or personalities due to substance abuse (e.g. alcohol blackouts) or a general medical condition?

Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]

Dissociative Identity Disorder

This is scored by DSM-IV rules. The subject must be positive for questions 127-130 to receive a diagnosis of DID.

#130 is missing the word not. Restate it as Is the problem with different identities or personalities not due to substance abuse (e.g. alcohol blackouts) or a general medical condition? Then the instructions make sense.

Hi weeble,

Yes it is very confusing, and so don't feel bad about it. Keep in mind that this test isn't designed for us to administer it ourselves, but rather by a professional. Thus it is written for a therapist not us.

A "yes" (or number 1) response is a positive response. So if it says you must have a certain number of positive responses in a section, it means you should only count those you answered "yes" to. Also some of the instructions say you need to answer negatively for some questions (if I remember correctly) and therefore you would have needed to answer no. However, like Una said, number 130 is WRONG and is the opposite of what it says.

I hope that provides some clarity. Please let me know if there's anything else you're having trouble with.

I have a question. I seem to meet all the criteria for DID except the parts about abuse. My abuse was emotional and there seems to be no questions regarding those experiences on this interview. In light of this, would that mean I would be exempt from ever having a DID Dx?

All my known childhood abuse is emotional and/or severe neglect (my T says extraordinarily chaotic and a lot of sexual unsafety even if it turns out no abuse). I might have other stuff too (or at least a little part is showing some), but not chronic and not by a primary caregiver as far as I can tell so far. So, first I would say, it doesn't necessarily have to be sexual/physical abuse for it to have traumatized you. Next, I would consider that there might be stuff there you don't remember quite yet. That doesn't mean there is or there isn't, but it's not impossible. I get caught up a lot on this "nothing I experienced was bad enough" to qualify for DID thing, but everyone has told me that even emotional stuff and neglect can be damaging enough to make you split.

saragrl:
Having a specific type of abuse is not a requirement for DID. Actually, technically, you don't even necessarily have to have been "abused", but your experience as a child had to have been traumatic enough and overwhelming enough for you to create different parts of you to hold the overwhelming experiences.

The only questions that actually pertain to a DID diagnosis are the following (as stated at the end of the test in the scoring section):

***********************************************************************************
XIV. Dissociative Identity Disorder
127. Have you ever felt like there are two or more distinct identities or personalities within yourself, each of which has its own pattern of perceiving, thinking, and relating to self and others?

Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]
If subject answered No to question 127, go to question 131.

128. Do at least two of the identities or personalities recurrently take control of your behavior?

Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]

129. Have you experienced inability to recall important personal information that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness?

Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]
130. Is the problem with different identities or personalities due to substance abuse (e.g. alcohol blackouts) or a general medical condition?

Yes=1 No=2 Unsure=3 [ ]

*******************************************************************************

If you answer "Yes" to questions 127-129, and if you answer "No" to question 130, then you would qualify for a diagnosis of DID.

There is evidence that suggests that DID can be linked to both repetitive early childhood trauma as well as disorganized attachment. So I wouldn't judge that just because your abuse was emotional (versus sexual or physical), your experience doesn't "qualify you" to have DID.

[Sidenote- I think my DID stems primarily from disorganized attachment to my primary caregiver (mom) and emotional neglect, and not from physical or sexual abuse.]

Hope this helps!

Hmm. I got positive for Somatic, Depression, Borderline, Cult stuff, Dissociative Amnesia, Dissociative Fugue, Depersonalization disorder, and DID. Some I always knew (hello fibromalagia, depression), I didn't think my upbringing was that cultish. But mom did think she was part alien. :roll: Among other things. I really thought almost everyone had the Dissociative amnesia/fugue stuff, amongst other stuff.
