can people see DID?

Postby sanan22 » Fri Jul 15, 2011 12:39 pm

this is a question I've been sitting with some time, and I've come to the answer "no". but that's only me because 1-I don't have much of a social life 2-my alters take care of their situation so people in those situation see only the alter that takes care of a given situation. 3- there is an idea in my system that "nobody has to know".

my T recognises only the littles when they are "out". while my family just think "I'm just like that".
it seems to me that it's all just in our heads (but that's only my experience).

how do you experience it?

For me, people definitely see that I change.

I know different things, act in different ways, have different interests, like different people, and so on! They might not notice it immediately after I switch, but because I usually end up saying something like "sorry, I just switched, I'm not sure what's going on", they can tell when it's happened. Even if I say nothing, it doesn't take long for people to actively notice that I'm not acting the same way as I was before.
A brief summary of my DID:
My name is Lucy, my 'partner' is Matilda.

We have no memories of what each other experiences, we both have different tastes and interests, and both of us believe ourselves to be the main personality.
We can only communicate with each other by e-mails and writing.

my SO and my T are the only people who notice... they're also the only people who know I'm DID...

I've had some work colleagues (sp?) notice that I'm not focusing and that my brain is foggy...But other than that, nobody knows and nobody notices either.

i think unless people know what to look for, they won't see anything... God knows my parents never saw anything

I don't think anyone has ever noticed my DID, but now that I have become aware I have noticed DID in some other people in my community. Soon I may locate enough of us that we can form a face-to-face support group with a professional facilitator.

On other (non DID) support groups I have been very open about my DID. My descriptions of what it is to experience DID have led several other people to discover they too are living with undiagnosed DID. One now has an initial diagnosis by a therapist.
