WE

Postby BENNY » Tue Mar 28, 2006 12:33 am

HI,

I'M NOT A PROFESSIONAL, BUT I HAVE LISTEN TO PEOPLE AT 12 STEP MEETINGS. THEY OFTEN SPEAK OF TALKING TO THEIR SELVES. THEY CALL IT TALKING TO THE COMMITY IN THEIR HEAD. I THINK IT'S MORE LIKE AN ANGEL ON ONE SHOULDER, AND A DEVIL ON THE OTHER. OR THEIR CONSCIENCE.

I WANTED TO BELIEVE THAT WAS WHAT I WAS GOING THROUGH. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS, I COULDN'T EXPLAIN WHY I NOT ONLY HAD DIFFERENT POINTS OF VIEW, BUT A WHOLE PERSONALITY TO GO WITH IT. I CAN ONLY BE ONE AT A TIME. EACH PERSONALITY WANT'S TO TAKE CONTROL. EACH HAVE DIFFERENT LIKES AND DISLIKES, DRESSES, TALKS, AND WRITES DIFFERENT.

I WISH I COULD FEEL LIKE JUST ONE PERSON. I CAN HIDE IT WELL. I DOUBT IF ANYONE OUTSIDE THE PEOPLE I'VE TOLD, WOULD BE ABLE TO TELL. THE DOWN SIDE IS I CAN'T LET PEOPLE GET TOO CLOSE, THEY MIGHT GET TO KNOW ME. I DON'T REMEMBER WHAT THE OTHER P'S DO, SO I HAVE TO WING IT A LOT. I'VE LEARNED TO HAVE PATT ANSWERS. LIKE; "I'M SORRY, I'VE HAD THIS TERRIBLE HEADACHE", OR "I'M SO TIRED I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING LATELY" OR " MUST HAVE BEEN ALL THOSE DRUGS I TOOK WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER", OR BETTER YET: "I JUST HAVEN'T BEEN MY SELF LATELY".

IT'S HARD TO DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU HAVE SEVERAL PERSONALITIES THAT WANT TO DO THEIR OWN THING. IT'S NOT LIKE I CAN JUST PICK ONE AND RUN WITH IT. I'VE TRYED. BELEIVE ME I'VE TRYED! ONLY TO GET EVEN MORE DISCUSSED.
I DON'T SIT AROUND FEELING SORRY FOR MYSELF. I'D GO NUTS.

IF YOU DON'T HAVE DID BE GLAD! I WOULDN'T WISH IT ON ANYONE.

I don't feel the need to say "we". I'm me, D's D, Frank's Frank. If I hate a certain show, thats just me, D and Frank may agree, but there is no "we" because we sure as hell didn't decide as a whole. If you lived in an apartment with some friends, and you all share the same car, that you're technically the owner of, you don't say "we own the car".

WE?

Postby BENNY » Sun Apr 16, 2006 8:59 am

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ABOUT NOT HAVING DID. ON RECORD.
I STILL WANT TO BELIEVE THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH ME. I KEEP TELLING MYSELF, THAT I AM "NORMAL" I THINK I DID REACT "NORMAL" FOR SOMEONE THAT HAS GONE THREW, WHAT I DID. (IT WAS "NORMAL" FOR ME.)

NOBODY IS PERFECT. I TRY TO DO THE BEST I CAN IN ANY GIVEN SITUATION. THAT'S ALL I CAN DO. WHEN SEEKING FOR ANSWERS TO PROBLEMS I'M HAVING, THE BEST THING TO DO IS BE HONEST. THE ONLY STUPID QUESTIONS, ARE THOSES THAT AREN'T ASKED. :?:

I DIDN'T LIKE SOME OF THE ANSWERS I'VE GOTTEN OVER THE YEARS, BUT WHEN I KNEW I WAS BEING TOLD THE TRUTH, I HAD TO ACCEPT IT, LIKE IT OR NOT. USUALLY IT'S WASN'T AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE, BUT IT CAN SURE BE HUMBLEING, TO SAY THE LEAST.

WHATEVER YOUR JOURNEY IS, I HOPE YOU FIND THE THE BEST ROAD TO YOUR RECOVERY. EVERYBODY HAS SOMETHING TO DEAL WITH AT SOME POINT IN THEIR LIFE. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. THOSES OF US THAT HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH A LOT OF HORRIBLE THINGS, WILL BE THAT MUCH STRONGER A SURRVIVOR IN LIFE. :D

BEST WISHES,
BENNY

My gram always used to ask me who 'we' was.. and id be like "huh? 'We'?"... Yea you said 'we'... that was way before a bunch of my friends who have DID started suggesting that I have it too. I'm 'we' mostl when stressed out or super tired and stuff... and I was always that way back then.... then after I started exploring the we of me, the outgoing message on my cell phone kept getting changed.. people who called and left messages would comment about the new message and I had no idea what they were talking about. Then my sis left me a message saying "who is WE?". I called her back and asked what do you mean 'who is we'? She said your message says "We are unavailable to take your call. Please leave a message." So then *I* changed the outgoing message... and my gram left a message teling me that she liked the other ones better... geeze.

Its only until after telling some of my friends and joining this forum do I feel comfortable using "I" instead of "We". Its also great for my alters: They like the forums. They get to talk here. Its a bit rare, they usually only talk for breif moments when ordering food or asking what time it is, etc.

I find that I too refer to myself as "We". Im very introspective and I tend to talk to myself quite a bit when Im alone. I usually do a pretty good job at keeping it to myself, but no doubt Ive been caught candid a few times . Ive always thought that I said this, because I was really referring to a subconsious knowledge of a seperation of mind and body (Whether it be learned or not). As in "What should WE do today?" "WE shouldnt eat that" "WERE gonna be late!" But then again, who knows? Im crazy.

I grew up in a large family, then started my family very early, so, using "WE" was something I could easily get away with and never thought about till recently. I have trained myself I believe, to only say "I". I may have not allowed myself to say "WE" simply out of a sense of wanting to belong in a society I never felt I belonged in. I often find myself saying "WE' when it is accepted I am speaking for myself and my spouse, when in reality I am only speaking for myself.

I use we when we are alone and will say out loud "Ok, we need to put the clean laundry away, then put more in the machine and then we will have lunch." but we use I when other people are around because that's what is used by everyone around us. I don't know anyone else who uses we instead of I.
