wish me luck

Postby chibixal » Sat Jun 11, 2011 7:14 pm

I'll be at my cousin's wedding in a few hours.. nearly all my family will be there. It's going to be nuts but I'm hoping to talk to a few of my family members about my diagnosis. It's funny, last time we were all together at an event like this one of my cousins came out of the closet now I'm about to come out about my D.I.D. haha, hope it all goes well. Wish me luck!

Hi,

Are you sure that it is wise to do that? It is a wedding and I'm sure that hearing about mental illnesses - of any kind - isn't welcome at such an occasion. They are about happiness and joy, and a time to forget the troubles of life. I would not reveal the information about your DID unless it is absolutely necessary to do so.

Good luck [having fun]
Kevin

You don't know my family very well lol. My cousin came out at a funeral..
My husband came out about his tansexualism at thanksgiving. It's either that or we talk about how often most of my family is sober..I'm not listening to that conversation again..(too much slurring speech and whatnots for me..)

Strange for them to come out at a funeral and thanksgiving respectively... you don't have to follow the trend though!

Aneisha, count me in as interested in the results, if you did decide to divulge. I've often imagined how conversations would go with various kin. Of course, I wouldn't stand up on a table at a wedding or a funeral and announce it, but I think you're talking about selective discussions with particular individuals. It's odd but when else do you see relatives except at such family gatherings? Of course, I'm American and that often means relatives are spread all over the place and you never see most of them except at such events.

Did you end up telling them?

It's not something that I personally would do because my family were part of the cause of my DID. It would add further to my problems if I decided to tell them as they would probably deny and/or make fun of me. It then might spread as a rumour through the family (getting embellished and criticised along the way) and perhaps become something that people hold against me in the future...

If you did end up telling them, I hope it went well. If you haven't already told them yet and are still set on telling them, good luck!
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.
