Music and writing thoughts down definitely help. Giving them the opportunity to express themselves and speak through journalling helps you communicate with them better, as well as gives you a bit of a relief from the constant noise.
Also, I try to encourage my alters to draw and do more artistic things as well, because sometimes it gives them the chance to get out a lot of thoughts at once. Normally after they're done, they're relatively quiet for a while. Plus, sometimes they produce some really interesting work.
Mindless things, like watching cartoons or playing video games, can also help. It occupies your mind just enough sometimes for them to be a bit calmer.
Hope this helps a little
