Same here. Until a year ago I probably would have scored in the 30's despite the DID. My score of 47 was from a few months ago. Today I scored 55; that reflects my new awareness of blocks of amnesia and my current severe dissociative symptoms. Also, on the question about the dissociative experience of leaving my body, I now score that higher because I see that it corresponds to my experience of going into a void somewhere inside my body.

Ctrl Alt Del wrote:While I think it's great that this tool exists, I think it's a bit flawed. For one, it seems to focus more on amnesia and the moderate to extreme traits of depersonalization and derealization, so that those with more severe disorders are more likely to be picked up on than those with more subtle variants.

DES is a screening tool for dissociation in general, not DID specifically, and most people with severe dissociation do not have DID. Some studies focus on using DES to screen for DID because despite being so clearly defined DID is often well hidden and thus difficult for non-specialists to recognize.

Ctrl Alt Del wrote:"The Stranger in the Mirror" has a really good sample of the SCID-D in it that hits many more bases than the DES, if anyone is interested in that.

I'd like to be administered the SCID-D, preferably by someone who administers it frequently. This would be a reason to consult a specialist. Can it be administered by phone?

Holy crap.. I got 75.

I know that I'm DID (even though I've never been to a therapist) but... Honestly.. It's sort of a shock to get such a high score... I've always been in this sort of denial. I don't know why... Maybe it's because my parents strongly believe I'm lying.. Meh... Either way. That was sort of a major shock to me

Hmmmm.... I scored 93. I took this test a year ago and didn't score nearly as high as that. I think it is because I am more aware of the way I experience things now and actually notice the amnesia etc much more. I'm not trying to be in denial as much as I was then.
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

62, but its a rather vague test I think unless you are certain as to what is going on. I could have answered more or less on some questions.

Salted made a good point. I think the more you know yourself and your condition the higher you will probably score.

I scored 80 today. 78 a few days ago. When I read the score I start wondering whether things are going as well as I think they are. Ah well, I guess the proof is in my surroundings and my functioning. Do think the questions are very global instead of specific. For instance the talking to yourself bit. My best friend talks to herself yes? But not in the same way that I do.
Where I have conversations with myself, she places a comment to herself. Something I've seen most people do. I wonder which version of talking to yourself they mean.

Amenacer
Daguir, Illiyana ( end thirties), Selas (7 or 14), Mara, Ferris (19), Falcon (19), Simon (lover of panda's maybe 5 yrs), Malegra(3 or 4), Malis, Amenacer, Liz (25) , Liza and some not yet willing to have their names mentioned. Not willing to identify by color-coding yet either.

The question about talking to yourself is vague because it is given to people who aren't aware there are different kinds of "talking to yourself". Don't worry about it. It is a screening test and it does its job well.

I talk to myself in my mind, and that is normal. However, I also sometimes experience "another" inside my mind talking to me, and that is DID. There is also the hearing voices that happens in various kinds of psychosis. All of these are distinct to someone who knows about these things, but a newbie does not know how to tell them apart.

Our score was high, but not as high as it was when taken five years ago....this is encouraging, especially when there is often talk of not continuing with therapy. Something must be working the way it is supposed to :|
