Dreams and DID

Postby Nighter » Mon Jan 10, 2011 1:19 am

I'm a newb, so I have some questions and the answers might seem pretty obvious..but I'm asking out of convenience because I can't find any direct topics with the answers to these questions (or more likely I'm not looking hard enough.) A link to another topic with the answer would be appreciated if these questions have already been covered.

Has anyone here had dreams where they are themselves, but it's clear that their alters are dreaming with them as separate people? Has anyone met their alters in dreams?

Also when your not "out front" in control of the body or watching or talking to someone else within the mind...have you ever gone to sleep, or gone unconscious and started dreaming while someone else is out?

I've been experiencing odd things like this pretty regularly lately, its really confusing me.

I've also noticed that 'we' can all share eachothers memories at will, and sometimes bad memories can sort of "bleed" from one person to the next, just like emotions can effect more than one of us even though its not originally our own emotion. Has this sort of thing happened to many of you?

hi, i'm alex. i'm one of heather's alters. i have had dreams where i talked to and interacted with heather and hannah on occasion. very rarely do i see kaycie. i know that heather sees and interacts with us in some of her dreams, and i can differentiate between what is "my" dream and "her" dream. i don't know about hannah or fairy, but i know that kaycie doesn't really sleep. which is weird in itself.

as for your second question, yes, some alters do "go to sleep" when others are out. when heather is really stressed, she goes away to this place that she has...she describes it as black nothingness and she just lets herself sleep there. fairy was asleep, or dormant, for years. in fact, she just started becoming more active in the past month.

and lastly, memories. certain memories we can share.(**possible trigger**) heather and kaycie shared a memory of being raped when she was 16. later then, kaycie shared that memory with us. i see it as happening to someone else, because it's not my memory. but both kaycie and heather see it as happening to them. emotions can "bleed through" too. when one of us is upset or angry, it can throw us all off.

theres always going to be something confusing going on with DID, at least in my short experience. just hang in there and you'll be ok :)

something i forgot...certain memories we can keep from each other. certain ones have to be kept from each other or bad things could happen. so it is possible, and quite common, for certain alters to have memories that others don't, especially bad ones. i guess it depends on the system.

Thank you. Now I'm not so freaked out and confused and not wondering if I'm (or we are) entirely abnormal. Phew.

Before our system "opened up" and we started being able to interact with each other, we used to all share dreams together. Everyone looked like who they really are, so the *host* or whatever, she looked like the body. While I was out, I thought it was really odd to be like "I look like that person from my dream...this must be a dream!" when I looked in the mirror the first couple hundred times. Thankfully I got over that little misinterpretation after a month or so. Still laughing at myself about it though.

We've got one alter who's literally only been awake twice when we really needed him. He just sets things in order, then goes to sleep and stays asleep unless he's sort of "forced" to the front, and then he goes and does his thing so he can get back to sleep....actually I think his version of sleep is actually dormancy since I sleep and it never lasts for months or years.

I've noticed with memories and dreams and stuff that I can sense or trace back a memory to who it belongs to, and I always know if its a "second hand" memory because the emotions aren't as strong, or it just "feels" like someone else has interacted with it.

Heh, I had to try and explain that to one of the children (alters.) I basically said that memories smell like whoever has owned or touched them...and the answer I got was "I'm not stinky...O_o" They're so cute and funny sometimes.

Anyways, now I'm rambling.

It'd be interesting to see how many people experience what I originally asked, maybe all of us do in some sense.

Thanks for replying.

Well me the weird thing about dreams is that I switch often in my sleep. so I'll go t sleep and then someone else will wake up the next morning. We don't always know who's dreaming.

We share memories too almost exactly like you do.

I've gone to sleep on a Saturday and woken up on on a Wednesday.

I switch in my sleep, but I'm unconscious so I tend not to figure out who will wake up, or even realise someone else has woken up.
