I just wondered...

Postby mosaicmonkey » Mon Jul 19, 2010 7:13 am

This is probably a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.

Is it possible to have more than one dissociative disorder? I mean, there are various MH conditions in our system from Bipolar disorder to Schizoid Personality Disorder. However DID kinda can account for the symptoms of other disorders really. Still, they have suggested Mara may have Depersonalization Disorder and Dissociative Fugue. I mean, there's no doubt she's got DID, but could she have DF aswell? :? It's just way too much to think about at 08:18am (I woke up with a busy head)

Hi. Our therapist told us a couple of weeks ago that most people with dissociative disorders have more than one dissociative disorder so I suppose the answer is yes, that is prossible. :D
I think it could also be possible that those periods of time that Mara has had DF could perhaps instead be accounted for by another alter that is not known by Mara or anyone else in the system...

Hopefully you'll all work out what is going on and be able to improve the situation...

Take care...
In a way, I am not defined by my dissociation. In a way, I am.

Yeah, me too. I want to know how is school like. How to deal with classmates, if you know what I mean. And also how do you learn for school if you are not fully concious. *Tasi*

Yeah, we thought of that as a possibility, but it definitely isn't. The protectors have totally investigated to make sure.

The DSM-IV defines [1] as:

sudden, unexpected travel away from home or one's customary place of work, with inability to recall one's past,
confusion about personal identity, or the assumption of a new identity, or
significant distress or impairment. (thanks wikipedia! )

The bit about identity assumption isnt in the same way a DID person has multiple personalities, the person with DF actually thinks they're someone else/forgets who they are.
