Is it possible to have DID when you are a child, but then as you grow up, most symtoms seem to go away. The few possible symptoms that are left is a few missing childhood years, migranes, occasional floating feelings (looking in the mirror and not recognizing yourself), weird "memories", and a feeling of not feeling like you are in your body? The black-out periods no longer happen and you wonder if the conversations in your head are actually normal after all, and you are actually happy with who you are except you would desperately like to get those missing years back because "something" from that missing period of time just doesn't seem to want to leave you alone?
Would that be DID or something else? My counselor, (I went to for depression) suggested that I was the type of person (whatever that means) to have DID, but she didn't elaborate any further. I don't have black-outs and I'm sure most people have conversations in their heads like I do. Should I find a professional that specializes in DID to make sure I don't have this problem?

My parents and family first realized i had a problem at the age of 4 yrs old. I ran around proclaiming I was not "Vicki" but was "Ricky" this behavior continued through my grade school years. I had actually forgot about it until I had a break down at age 26 and ended up in therapy. There, with my school records and problems over the years, it was obvious to diagnois DID.
After the age of 10, my alters became aware they had to hide. They had to use my given name... they had to mold into society inorder for me to "Fit in" as a person" We made pacts, who was allowed out at what times... etc. This was forgotten for many years. (Although my family remembers those times well)
I gre into a 100% @@@@@@@ MPD. NOTHING seemed wrong. I had strange thoughts and found myself in major crisis at times wondering why I would have ever done some of the things I did. I am fully functional. I display no real signs of MPD most of the time. I never have black outs anymore because we made the deal years ago that I always watched out my eyes... so I knew what was going on. to make a long story shot... your answer is Yes and No... :0

From the reading I have done, the most common way that DID presents is depression. I would definitely pursue this with an experienced person who is familiar with DID.
Has your depression improved? Have you been prescribed anitidepressants and had success/no success. Antidepressants don't often work with DID, but then again, it's not uncommon for alters to respond in ways that other alters don't.
Sounds like you've got an informed therapist. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain, whether you have DID or not.
