Amber I had a teacher like that in art college, and another one similar in uni... both had awful preconceived ideas about waht we should or should not do.
the one in art college picked on me in animation class because I stupidly made it known that i liked manga... and I didn't even draw manga half the time! Therefore, every animation i did was branded 'alternative' and 'manga'., even when it wasn't. When i tried to make it different he called it 'too disney' and therefore still wrong to him.
I really hated it, he thought I thought I was too clever all the time, he thought I had delusions of grandeur and all that, and that I was never going to get anywhere by doing 'commercial' art *groan* Just because it didn't correspond with his preferred art style.
The one in uni didn't like me because I wrote a screenplay about a suicide I witnessed *double groan* She told me off for being too generic, and then spent a 2 hour lecture to the entire class, aimed at me, telling us that we shouldn't write awful generic stories about things we had never experienced. She also told me off for trying to defy her... the instant I did it she assumed I was trying to be Mr Big, and was sarcastic to me for the entire year.
Head down mouth shut... that's exactly how I felt too with those teachers...
Ugh, they're just closed minded people I guess.
I see nothing wrong with working in elementary and doing music. To me that's one of the most important forms of teaching you can do, elementary's a very critical age! And music is so important. If he can't see that, then fair enough, You'll still make a great difference anyway
