If my body is all grown up why are Brussel sprouts yucky?

Postby BeccaBee3 » Fri Jan 31, 2025 9:39 am

Hey friends, I wake up new from 1987. that makes me "six years old" but my body is 43 years old.

I know I have D.I.D. and it means a lot of mes share.

I really don't understand why the brussel.sprputs taste so bad when I eat them last night?

cuz they are for eating and I know everybody eats them a lot.

why do they taste yucky to me even if we have the same body and the same mouth? Brussel sprouts is supposed to be yummy but I think they are yucky balls of leaves.

I have bad tummy that gets sick a lot. sensitive allergies. so I don't have much foods to choose or I would eat chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese or peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

my brother takes care of me now and he brought regular dinner and it was all yucky foods that we eat all the time and think are good!! I'm just very confused why it tastes different to me.because we all have the same body and the same.mouth and the same tongue so why they weren't yummy like usual? even if I'm little on the inside, shouldn't the body have the same tastes in the mouth from being older?

Hi new one in BeccaBee3,

I think the answer is because many, many things are decided by the brain and NOT the body. Things like how bad allergies are, how well your eyes can see, whether certain places hurt or don't hurt, or how much they hurt. And that's true for what tastes you like.

Different "mes" in you kind of use different parts of your brain, and those different parts can have different tastes. So it's physically the same mouth, but the brain is deciding whether or not it likes those tastes in your mouth. It isn't the mouth that decides.

I hope that your brother can be understanding and maybe check with you guys about which foods you like that day. Or he can bring potentially yucky food, and if it is yucky, maybe you can save it and always have chicken nuggets, or mac and cheese, or peanut butter and jelly available if that's all you want to eat. Then maybe the next day you can heat up the regular food and eat it.

We're able to get our own food, or the husband gets it, and we try to make sure that if all we feel like having for dinner is something really simple and bland, then we have it available. Other times we're fine with something spicy and flavorful.

Also, I think Brussel sprouts are one of those things that some people love and some people hate, whether they're grown up or not.

Hello BeccaBee3,

My theory on this based on something I saw years ago

Children in general find vegetables don't taste nice because in nature, poisons tent to be bitter so the brain naturally likes to avoid bitter foods as a defence against accidently ingesting a poison. This stems back to evolution and natural protection.

As we grow up, we develop the knowledge to be able to differentiate between bitter tasting foods and foods that may be poison to us.

It sounds like your little is only doing what comes naturally in the process of growing up so I really would not be concerned to much.

Although this probably doesn't help with the food side. I hope it gives you a better understanding why your little doesn't like brussels :D

Hi,

Brussel sprouts taste bad because they are disgusting!

We spend a lot of time deciding what to eat because not everybody likes the same thing. We figured out that sometimes we can just ignore stuff and come back later for dessert.

Even typical adults can find brussel sprouts yucky.

I thought I didn't like brussel sprouts- it turns out that like most other green vegetables, I prefer to eat them raw rather than cooked. Growing up vegetables were usually overcooked, and awful. These days I'll sooner eat more vegetables raw, or cooked just for maybe one or two minutes in the microwave, or stir-fried, rather than boiled until they go mushy and lose their colour.

I will happily eat brussel sprouts raw. Once cooked they just seem to taste bitter to me.
