HI everyone,
Not sure where to start. I was dx bipolar many years ago, but it’s come to my attention (i know how vague that is) that DID is a possibility for me. I seem to have 3 fragments and a possible child alter that I know of. I’m still getting to know my system, as I’m kind of in shock tbh.
I’ve dissociated my entire life, have “met” people that I don’t recall meeting, have found letters and texts I don’t recall writing etc. I’ve bought toys for my child alter to play with. They made him very happy. He used to speak to me but he’s been silent for a long time, apart from some gibberish texting that I think were his attempts at communicating with me.
I guess no real questions, just wanted to reintroduce myself.

Welcome (back?).
We can't give you a diagnosis, especially not one as tricky as DID, but I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say we're happy to provide answers and support.
Hopefully you find the help you need to get through your struggles.

Hi Grey,
Thanks so much for the reply! Your support means a lot.
I’m not looking for a dx from the board, as I know how that works. I’ll be working on that with my T — hopefully he can work with me on trauma and dissociation. I did take the test twice a few years ago and scored high, and since then, as I wrote, a full alter has appeared that has taken control several times during episodes trying to make contact with me. I’ve lost time during these episodes and found different kinds of evidence left behind. So I need to explore this further.
If my T can’t work with me, or is too skeptical, what would my next steps be?

Hi
We've found this board really helpful ..several different hosts over several years. There doesn't seem to be as many about as there used to be which is a shame as its the best DID board/group we've been on regarding level of help and information we've got from here.

Hi,
Well, I personally live in a country that doesn't give out the DID diagnosis so easily since a lot of therapists are skeptical about it. They refer to it either as psychosis or simply by its symptoms of dissociation and depersonalization. I decided to just let them call it by the symptoms and only make sure they don't confuse it for psychosis (because that would set you up for schizophrenia treatment). Since I do also have bipolar 1, that's been easier to do because I can tell the difference. I'd recommend you do the same if your T is obstinate. The treatment is similar. Either that, or find a different T. Depends on how likely you are to find a T with DID experience.
Until then, ask your questions here. I'm sure Arbre will pop up with the good literature links soon enough.
All best,
