Hi. My name is not actually Mercury but I am going by that here for privacy because our legal name is too unusual. I am the "host"/daily life part. I would say I'm out alone at least 75% of the time.

We were diagnosed a bit over a year ago, I'm still learning a lot about our system and how to communicate and cooperate with each other. I don't think I've met every alter.

Being diagnosed was kind of terrifying, but also after a while I felt a sense of relief, because I understood what was happening and I knew that other people were experiencing it too. It's nice to know I'm not alone in this. So I wanted to join more communities to get to know others who live with this, as well as maybe help our communication and system documentation.

Hello and welcome on the forums! You'll find a link to a documentation list in my signature.

It's always scary and confusing at first but it gets better with time. There will be days when it'll be worse but most of the time it'll get better.

Except when you'll be through the "it feels worse because it's better" step of the therapy, meaning, when you get your first access to painful memories previously hidden from you. It means it's better because the amnesia is stopping but it's like passing a kidney stone. It's painful when it's passing but it's such a relief once it's over! I know it sounds scary worded like that but there are ways to make it easier. And this "miracle method" is: building the safety in the here and now, building new inner ressources, focusing on making the present life the best possible. Then when the pain shows up from under a rug you'll have all the tools to manage it and heal it easy peasy. :)

My therapist compares this to fighting a dragon. You don't wake up and go to the dragon's trying to one-punch it into oblivion. You train, get a sword, a shield, an armor, learn about the dragon's weak points... and only then you go fight it. And sometimes you realize that the dragon was just a princess waiting to be rescued with a hug and a cup of hot cocoa.

So, let's get down to business to defeat the traumas! Yay!

Thanks for your response and the resources!

We've definitely had some getting worse before it gets better parts of our journey and probably will in the future. We actually took a short break from trauma therapy per a recommendation by our therapist, but we're planning on going back and putting more work in. We have a lot to do in terms of learning to cooperate and communicate. I'm hoping the others will use this thread, but it will be helpful for me to have somewhere to post either way

Greetings and welcome.

We do hope that you are doing well and that you will find this forum adventageous.

Therapy is never easy, and I know that there are several within our own system who struggle with having to explain the various ills that have befallen us.

Enjoy your day,
Stolas

Thanks, yeah we do have several parts who are either very private or just don't like to talk about it. But I think we're understanding it's helpful for us :)
