ADHD and DID

Postby waspmass » Thu Dec 14, 2023 7:20 pm

I was told by my doctor that my alternate personlalities occur as a copying mechanism in the limits of my ADHD. Is this possible? Does someone have a similar experinece?? Also, I would like to know if the fact that I have difficulty remembering clearly what I did some minutes or hours earlier is a sign of DID. Thank you everybody.

The symptoms of ADHD can be traumatic enough to make one dissociate. Moreover, daily bullying or maladapted parenting linked to ADHD symptoms can also be traumatic enough to cause dissociation.

More on ADHD and dissociation :
DID symptoms hidden by ADHD symptoms (fr->en google translation)
Childhood mistreatment and s*cidal behaviors in ADHD adults (fr->en google translation)
Treatment of PTSD with EMDR in an ADHD person (fr->en translation)
okay not about ADHD but about the autism cousin still interesting
And this is about all neurodevelopmental disorders in relation to DID

More on other types of covert trauma that can cause one to dissociate outside of openly violent situations :
MPD as an attachment disorder
From infant disorganized attachment to adult dissociation

The memory issues that you show are often seen in people who have both ADHD and dissociation. Does not mean it is DID per se (there are other types of dissociative disorders and DID is not the only one with different identities!) but according to my exprience a lot of people who just cannot seem to remember their daily life have both dissociation and ADHD. Though some forms of dissociative amnesia can cause this without ADHD. Since you have both, yep the mix of the two is one heck of a ride.
